To secondary ferment or not. That is the question.

What do you mean by kit makers? If you're going to brew a recipe beer, kit's arn't involved. If your kit calls for you to use table sugar, then the people you get your kit's from are idiots and you should get them elsewhere. I get my supply's from Midwest, Dave the owner and the people that work...

How do you know when to harvest hops? How do you dry the hops?

I'm having a hard time with determining when to harvest my hops. They say that when they feel like paper. Well they felt like paper when they were small in early August. They're bigger and fuller now and year, they feel like paper. Also, how do you dry your hops? Do you dry them whole or...

To secondary ferment or not. That is the question.

I'm a bit confused. Did you use regular sugar in your brewing kit? That's not right if you did. Fermentation for 1 week Secondary for 2 weeks After bottling or kegging wait atleast 2 weeks

Does anyone know anything about the "Beer Machine 200"?

So you'd prime the beer as you would for bottling, fill the keg and bottle the rest. It souldn't be over carbonated, it should work. I hope yeu get something out of this thread, because it doesn't sound like I can do what I want to do with it.

    grain mill for $20

What's the make and model? I don't see it on Northern Tool's site. I'd like to google for it.

    grain mill for $20

What's LHBS? Would it be better if you run the grain through a 2nd time?

Does anyone know anything about the "Beer Machine 200"?

You didn't say how many gallons it is. It looks like a 2.5 gallon unit, which would be easy to epieriment with, and then double it for 5 gallon batches. I have 1 recipe I came up with so these expierimental brews won't be disasters.

    grain mill for $20

I can't find the page where you can purchase one. Can someone post a link to the order page. And I need to know if they ship to the US?

    grain mill for $20

Is it made for crushing grains? Why would an auto place sell them? Can you give us the make and model, and any other details. Will any coffee grinder/mill work for crushing grains?

Does anyone know anything about the "Beer Machine 200"?

It's the "Beer Machine 2000" not 200 I've never seen this before, it's on sale at JC Pennys for $99.99 and includes 1 beer kit($30 value). Now it says it makes enough for 28 - 12oz bottles, but that's 5.25 gallons which is impossible if you look at the pics of it sitting in the fridge...

Hops growers report. How far along are your hops? Pics, 1st time grower.

I would think a hot pepper liquid would work for most insects. The hottest part of a pepper like jalapino are the seeds. So if use a grain seeping cloth bag and put hot pepper seed in it along with other things like crushed red pepper, and seep it for 40-60 minutes in 3-4 cups of water. You'd...

Hops growers report. How far along are your hops? Pics, 1st time grower.

Nice! About what date did they start growing out of the ground? Do you know when you will harvest? I hope you looked at the link I provided because there're do's and dont's.

Feedback on planned equipment/first brew please.

And that's why you don't want to use plastic with your beer at any stage including Primary.

    Strange Looking Stuff

So you've been doing this this long and you still use plastic fermentors? Plastic is very poruss(sp?), to the point of where you can stain it perminantly. I know this because I use to use color dye to dye Frisbee Golf Discs. And I've had other expierience's. Use glass whenever possible...

Ordered my first brewing equipment & Ale kit!!

You should use it to easily sanatize your bottles. Instead of soaking the bottles in sanatizer making a mess, getting wet, the hassle's of rincing each bottle ect. Just run the dishwasher with the bottle's in upside down with no soap. It's the heat from the dishwasher that sanatizes the bottles...

Hops growers report. How far along are your hops? Pics, 1st time grower.

Looks good. I think this link might help even a veteran hop grower. Now I know why I'm having problems with the Fuggle plant. http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/afcm/hop.html So I should prune the lower leaves of the plant? It's 9', how far up from the ground should I prune and where...

Hops growers report. How far along are your hops? Pics, 1st time grower.

I'm in the suburbs of Mpls Minnesota. Then you wouldn't have believed how fast this hop plant grew. But yeah, it's a good idea to keep them watered good. I grew the hops in rich organic dirt mixed with manuer, maybe that played a part. When you say after the plant reaches the top of the...

Hops growers report. How far along are your hops? Pics, 1st time grower.

I'm growing hops for the first time and this is the plants first year. The Cascade hop plant grew like a weed, while the Fugal never really got going. The Cascade is over 9' tall now and it's at the end of the stake. How tall can they grow? Is there anything I should do like clip the...

Anyone want to sell their beer

Better than nothing but Hops was watered down crap. Mine was anyways. But none of that matters, they closed all the Hops down and folded the franchise about 2 years ago.
