    Anchor Brewing

I dont know why the term 'illegal' keeps getting ignored.
  2. M

    Anchor Brewing

Yes I should have been more clear. It wasn't an attack on you personally.. It was meant to describe a common general attitude that "it doesnt matter something came from, as long as I can benefit"
  3. M

    Anchor Brewing

I meant consequences in the industry, not you personally.. Other than maybe an eventual sagging product offering from the brewery.

    Anchor Brewing

That's absurd of course. Nobody implied breweries are being started to stick it to InBev. The resistance for which I was referring is the investigations and fines by the FTC, Justice Department and other law enforcement entities. They aren't 'aggressive business tactics' they are ILLEGAL...

    Anchor Brewing

Therein lies the issue. You don't care as long as you get what you want. There are long term consequences to that attitude. Google 'AB-Inbev illegal practices' and read about their indiscretions...

    Anchor Brewing

You missed the point. You are seeing the option of 'a thousand beers within an hour of your house' because a behemoth wasn't allowed to completely monopolize a market. You would not have the selection if Ab-Inbev were allowed to continue unchecked. Fritz Maytag sold stock in his family...

    Anchor Brewing

Oh please. If Ab-Inbev is left unchecked, there won't even be any small businesses to even attempt success.. We nearly reached that point at one point with ~100 breweries left. The U.S. now has 6788 breweries open in the US, because of mounting resistance to the unscrupulous tactics of...

    Anchor Brewing

Absolutely not. I suggest you research some of the news items over the last 20 years. AB-Inbev very nearly drove out all competition with very shady and underhanded tactics, coupled with their seemingly bottomless pockets and a massive political lobby. At the same time AB-Inbev was...

    Anchor Brewing

Once a Craft Brewery sells to Beer Voltron or someone similar, I never touch them again.. Even if the parent company doesn't interfere with the beer, I can't in good conscience line their pockets and therefore promote the practice. It wasn't that long ago that the US had very few breweries...

Cold crash suck back from blowoff tube

I built out a spunding valve not too long ago.. and I really liked it.. The last batch I brewed, I was going to go the spunding valve route.. but I messed around too long and the fermentation finished.. hahaa .. I have to say it doesn't get any simpler and the results were really good. The...

    Bottled water or filter?

All good points. I agree it's all about your situation. I live in the country so I don't mind a few miles drive to get water. It gets me out of the house and gives me a reason to take the dogs for a ride in the car.

    Bottled water or filter?

Oh please.. There is a big difference in the filtered water from the cartridges you are referring to and RO. To get filtered water remotely on par with RO, you have to buy filters that are NSF /ANSI 53 standard certified (and even these aren't even that close). These are at least $20 each...

    Bottled water or filter?

I am not knocking the filter idea.. I just think its more efficient to get RO water. housing = 15$ + shipping filter = 6$ ea + shipping hoses = $13 I have one of those massive ice / water kiosks things a few miles away. It literally costs me $1.65 for 8 gallons of water and the water is...

BeerSmith 3: Here it comes. Thoughts?

+1 Well said!. I sampled some of the other tools but bought BS because of the recipe database. At least this once. I have the Linux version which is largely neglected compared to the windows version. Mostly cosmetically.. But I don't like the design and there are several design...

Cold crash suck back from blowoff tube

Yeah I agree it isn't as much as you would think. I just did a cold crash with the Mylar balloon. It only deflated maybe halfway. Not really that much.. I wasn't even close to sucking star-san up into the fermenter.

I think I just invented a new method, and the term 'BitterBomb'!

This is the original IPA recipe that I loved. It is based off a West Coast IPA recipe in BS from @FirstStateBrewer I think.. This is the recipe I was following when I messed up the hop additions. Recipe Specifications -------------------------- Boil Size: 6.43 gal Post Boil Volume: 5.73...

    Bottled water or filter?

I think it it all applies to your original posting no?.. If you are buying bottled water, whether it is RO or not, you will likely be treating your water if you want a proper PH or minerals etc. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

    Bottled water or filter?

Plugging in RO water in Beersmith calculates an acid adjustment for the water. It gets you close using the calulator. Ah yes I missed your point.. yes adding the lactic acid at mash time is typical.

Young's American IPA all the way

Now I am thirsty!. hahaa yeah looks good.. Question - how does the oxidization show up? I had one batch that was off for some that I split out into a mini keg. The main batch was fine.. I thought I probably didnt have the proper sanitation. (which puzzled me because I sanitized...

    Bottled water or filter?

Why dont you want to get involved in salts or acids? Its cheap and takes care of it. The thing to do is test the PH of the water.. and add the ingredients to get it in range. I have to add a lot of lactic acid to my water to get the PH into range.. If you are starting with bottled...
