Any tips on kegging for the first time?

It might sound a little intimidating, but once you have the basics down, it goes 5,000 times faster than bottling (and your back will thank you later on!): 1) Clean & sanitize the keg lid & transfer equipment, and make sure the keg is pressure ready (i.e. does it seal correctly & hold CO2?)...

    10 year old kegs....need refurbishing

Basically, yes to all except the poppets being interchangeable and the regulator which, assuming you already have one, you can only check by pressure testing it on your setup (i.e. hooking it up to your dispenser/kegerator). Since the kit from Morebeer didn't include any, grab a tube o' lube...

    180 on IPAs

I was basically thrown in the bitter end of the beer pool, so to speak. I first became interested in craft beer after I moved to San Diego about 7 years ago. One day my landlord/roommate saw that I had stuff like Stone IPA, Red Stripe and Gordon Biersch in the fridge (being the only "decent"...

    April Fool's Day pranks

Baseball fans will get this one, but I made a legitimate-looking AP press release statement concerning Barry Zito (SF Giants pitcher who is both severely over-paid and currently going through the downward spiral that all starting pitchers eventually reach). Posted it on the Giants' forums and on...

    That feeling when...

Not only the mess to deal with, but the sound it makes when it kicks makes me jump out of my socks. Something akin to a squid being run over by an 18-wheeler...

    Bottling bucket leaked

This.^ When I used to bottle (full-time kegerator now), I made it a rule to water test the bottling bucket EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I bottled. Tighten the spigot by hand, take a channel lock if necessary, but always water test it. You never know when that bastard of a rubber washer will decide to...

Good lord, I love this idea to no end....:fro:

    That feeling when...

Your keg kicks anywhere past 3/4 of the way up the glass. I swear my kegerator is possessed and just wants to laugh at me as I mop up the foamy mess.

Diabetic friendly beer trials and AE disscusion.

Suppose I'll throw my 2 centavos in: I've been a Type 1 since I was 5 (now 30), and for the last 20 years, I've been on an insulin pump. I shared the same concerns over BG levels that you and your wife do when I initially became interested in this whole "non-Budweiser beer" world, but over...

    What a Friday....

Same boat, bud. I've been looking up material on getting my own hop garden going, but dear old Mother Nature decided to completely screw up over the last few months (i.e. 70 degrees in December, currently low 40's with 3" of rain scheduled for Sunday). And this is California, dammit!

    Regulator Problem?

Could be a loose or busted o-ring in the regulator. I had the exact same problem a few months ago and, after taking it to my LHBS, the owner could tell right away that an o-ring had cracked. Can't say for sure how much work is involved in replacing them, but he had it back to me in less than an...

Sanitize Beer Bottles with Potassium Metabisulfite?

It's not a common practice among homebrewers from what I've seen. The standard go-to sanitizer is usually an iodine-based solution like Star-San or Iodophor.

    What's your excuse?

Currently on Eye of the Hawk #2 after a long day at the bottle shop I work at--mainly due to a homeless guy that comes by several times a day, argues with himself over whether he wants a beer or something to eat, generally stinks up the place (no amount of air freshener will help when he comes...

    Thanks HBT!

Yep-like most things in life, brewing is a life-long learning process. Can't say enough good things about HBT (hence the lifetime supporter thingy <--). I recommend this place to everyone I come in contact with that has even a remote interest in homebrewing and/or beer in general (the latest...

Is Karl Strauss considered a microbrewer or not?

They're the sole beer distributors for Disneyland, so I would say yes. (That said, there's nothing better than kicking back in the food court at CA Adventure with a Tower 10 after a long day of walking around both parks.)

    I guess I'm a drug dealer now?!

Logic, thy name is Kylito87. No need to act like a vengeful kid when the neighbors try getting the local fuzz involved. Head back to their house, be succinct and to the point, and just explain that you noticed their wandering eyes and you want to explain what they were seeing. All of this...
