Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Also.. The reason I had to drill my fb is because using the stands it came with meant there was 9.5L below the fb. So to have a grist of 2.5 I needed a lot more water than i should have - meaning a lot less to rinse with. I gained 5L of sparge by lowering the fb. Sent from my iPhone using...

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

You got me.. I didn't think! It does not sprinkle at all. The spread plate is always submerged just below the water(wort) line. Its purpose is too introduce hot water on top of the mash without disturbing the grain bed. I ran it past a commercial craft brewer recently, he said it sounded good...

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

Actually it works very well for fly sparging. Will post a video of it in use on next brew day.

Will this sparge arm work for fly sparging?

I used a 12.5mm hole saw in a drill press. I clamped the PICO in between 2 pieces of wood and then clamped that to the drill press table to ensure a clean finish. Because I required an elongated hole I drilled two holes close to each other then used a fine file to finish up. The hole saw was new...

Does this look like Brett contamination?

Sorry I missed volume - was 20L batch (in the fermenter). It was bubbling away within 6 hours of pitching.

Does this look like Brett contamination?

I have a blichmann plate chiller - have not timed it but say 20mins to 20deg Wyeast - American Ale II 1272 smack pack Pitched at 20 deg Fermentation info is on the previous post The wort I used for priming (mentioned in the previous post) is stored in the fridge during fermentation. Is...

Does this look like Brett contamination?

The excessive sediment you see in the pic was only in 3 or 4 bottles. Fermentation schedule - 10 days at 19deg, - Dry hopped and 5 more days at 19 - Dry hopped and crash cooled for 5 days. On bottling day I made up a priming solution with wort (a cup or less) collected on brew day and...

How to calculate efficiency? Why is mine so low!

Your LHBS is taking the p*ss - that first crush pic you posted is just plain terrible. Agreed its looking better though. Like you I went through all this too - here's the thread https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/why-my-efficiency-so-low-472572/ To summarize I was stuffing up 3 things. 1...

Does this look like Brett contamination?

I'm now up to 6 all grain batches. All of which taste bad :( Some still drinkable but this last batch is not. I have no experience tasting off flavours but my mate who brews reckoned it tasted bitter/sour/just plain awful and smelt bad too. I dropped in to a brew pub yesterday to drink some...

    Mysterious miscellaneous losses

Yup inaccuracies probably explain it. I poured 10L from the bucket into my fermenter and it came up to 9ish. So I've just finished re-marking both site gauges. Measured every 2L with electronic kitchen scales - and yes I checked its accuracy against another set I use for weighing hops. Sent...

    Mysterious miscellaneous losses

At the beginning of yesterdays boil there was 30.7L in the boiler, at flame out (60min boil) there was 25L. I attach a site gauge to the boiler and begin lautering (fly sparge) and stopped when the boiler had 30.7L in it. Closed the valve, emptied the site gauge and boil for 60 mins. At flame...

    Show off your brewing setup!

Hi. Just wondering if you are using that hoprocket for hopping or filtering? I have the same setup ie. hoprocket to therminator. I've been considering using the hoprocket as an inline filter instead of having bazooka filters in the boiler. Cheers

Is 68% attenuation anything to worry about?

Good to know. I won't stress about it then. Thanks Yooper!
