Hard water maybe affecting my beer

Good idea with the control water but if it is the water, should I use a filter to combat? As far as the taste for example, I made a strong hoppy IPA that should have not been sweet at all but turned out with a citrusy/sour not on the end. Its hoppy but not like youd expect. Just a soury end feel.

Hard water maybe affecting my beer

I can make a mean Stout, Porter and Pale without any issue. A Red, IPA will come out "off". Sweet cloying type taste. A little alcohol bitterness with the flavor that supposed to be with what I brewed.

Hard water maybe affecting my beer

Well I am having trouble mostly with IPA's. They turn out sweetish or more of a sourish taste no matter what hops I am using.

Hard water maybe affecting my beer

I had to snip just that page from the rest as it was to big to attach. Ill see if I can get the rest on there

Hard water maybe affecting my beer

I have had good and not great results with brewing in my new neighborhood. I just received a water report and I was wondering if anyone had this issue and what worked for them. I take extra special care in sanitation and cleaning and have a decent setup for brewing and fermentation but for some...

    CO2 gauge readings are off

Oh yeah I know Sharon.. Shes funny. Matt I talk to all the time. So weird. I'd love to see what epuip you have. I'm building plans for a brutus 10 now and just got in a 30 plate chiller that I cant wait to try out. Weird thing is the company apparently thought they never sent it to me and...

    CO2 gauge readings are off

Thank you. Yes you are correct. I took a look at it and it goes to 300 psi. I'm not sure what the hell I was thinking since the normal ones read up to about 2000. Oh we'll. I will replace it. I just got a refill ( new tank) from above the rest home brewing ( you may have heard of them:) ). And...

    CO2 gauge readings are off

Sorry. I realize I should have been a bit more detailed or reword it. I replaced the gauge that tells me the tank pressure from a harbor freight gauge that had a higher psi rating than those gauges you would normally see on the beer C02 gauge kits. Pretty sure this is it...

    CO2 gauge readings are off

I have a weird issue with my Czo2 gauges. I noticed that after changing my tank gauge from a gauge from harbor freight it seemed to worked perfectly. I noticed that the gauge was pegged most of the time and didn't really go down for a few kegs and my keg gauges are working great. But I just...

    20,30,40 or 60 plate Chiller?

Thanks!! I actually decide to go with this exact one. Cannot wait to see how well it works.

    20,30,40 or 60 plate Chiller?

Thank you.. I tell you what. Sometimes it's a pain in the ass setting up the chiller I have now and using plate chiller at a slower pace, since I don't have a pump as yet, a 30 plate would probably be good. Thank you for your advice.

    20,30,40 or 60 plate Chiller?

I am wondering, from people that have them, what the best number of plates would be for 5 gallon batches. Keep in mind I also make up to 30 gallons so i am looking for an in between. I have a immersion chiller now and I'm thinking a 30 plate would be like night and day. Any comments?

    Heating Elements in coolers

So obviously you protect the outside somehow of not coming in contact with any liquids and make sure the element will not touch the sides of the cooler. Is this process easier than it sounds? Do you find the element burns the grains or wort at all causing scorching?

    My electric brewery build

Can you tell me approximately how long/wide this is? I'm measuring out my garage space is and I just am wondering how wide it needs to be. Thanks

    Heating Elements in coolers

What about adding a shroud of some sort to keep it from scorching the wort that may help. Like a SS canister over the element. I think I will just upgrade the MLT the SS anyway just to be safe

    Heating Elements in coolers

I am looking into designing a new electric brewing system but I had a question about the elements. Can you still use a Plastic cooler for your MLT? Wouldn't the heat element burn through the plastic? ...is this a stupid question...

Yeast harvesting after using T90 pellets in primary

I like to save a bit of money yeast harvesting so I will regularly harvest my most used yeast. However, I'm using pellets hops direct from one of the seven main providers of hops in the entire country ( nice friend to have ) and I want to just drop hop in the primary without transferring but...

Where to buy corny kegs around Portland OR

I'm just wondering if any NW homebrewers know a cheaper place to buy kegs then our local brew store? I know the cheapest I have found is $50 a piece and searching through craigslist is desolate. Any help is appreciated!

    Mini Fridge Build Mods

I have added my new taps to the Fermentor/Kegerator (Ferminator??) Here are some pics. I would almost like to add that temp controller inside but I'm not sure how well those things stand up to condensation and changing temps.
