First batch - Weeks 3-4 in primary goes from awesome to bad

Opps, sorry, bad word choice on my part. Yes, I meant let the flavor clear out. Interesting, this isn't something I've read about on here before. Would you mind explaining a bit more please, Unionrdr? So, you are saying it is normal for the flavor to change drastically like that between...

First batch - Weeks 3-4 in primary goes from awesome to bad

Thanks for the reply. It wasn't cloudy at the three or four week mark. Your advice to put the bottles in a container is probably a very good one.

First batch - Weeks 3-4 in primary goes from awesome to bad

This is my first batch, an English IPA kit from a LHBS. I did a lot of research here before brewing and decided to go with a four week primary, no secondary. I waited three weeks before opening up the fermentation bucket to take a sample for a gravity reading. It hit the target FG reading...

    Anyone else?

For placing a tube onto the center of a three piece airlock, the size is 1/2" inside diameter. I brewed Saturday, put in the regular airlock, and woke up Sunday morning to find my fermenter lid half way across my unfinished basement. Blow-off tubes for me from now on.

Coriander seed in boil - dump into primary?

Thanks all. Next time I'll filter it out. Also, this morning I woke up to an exploded fermentor. This was my first batch making a starter and aerating with pure O2. I had planned on using a blow off tube, and cut the cross section off of the air lock (like recommended elsewhere on the...

Coriander seed in boil - dump into primary?

I just did my third brew, the Grand Cru kit from Midwest supplies. This was my first time using spices in a batch. When it came time to dump the wort into the primary, I left as much of the solids in the boil kettle as possible, like I had done for my first two batches (IPAs). Now, I'm...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

8 lbs of DME at 45 p/p/g, for 5 gallons = 1.072 OG. Boil size won't impact OG. Did you steep 1lb of Crystal 20L also? That could add another 4.5 points of gravity. Without the crystal malt factored in, the only way an OG of 1.060 makes sense is if you finished with 6 gallons of wort, or used...

    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

I'm looking at making a Ruination clone as my fourth batch, which will be my first time not using a kit. Originally I was going to use the recipe direct from Stone in the BYO article: http://www.stonebrew.com/news/081201/ . However, putting this into various recipe calculators (and my own...

    buying online

I've compared prices online (MidWest) to my two LHBSs, and the local stores are so much more expensive (like 25 - 50 % more). Also, after learning more about brewing from this forum, I'm left wondering about the LHBS I bought my first kit from... only 2 oz of hops in an IPA? Isn't that low...

    Questions on Campden tabs

Just to be clear, since I'm new... I just bought this for my next batch to neutralize chloramine: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/campden-tablets-potassium-metabisulfite.html It says on it 1 tablet per gallon. I've read various posts on here saying 1 tablet is good for 20 gallons (probably the...
