Mash tun manifold or SS braid?

I was thinking more like braid in a loop or even more complex of a geometry from the git for the SS braid. What if it was 20' of braid spiraled in the bottom of the tun covering every square nanometer of the bottom of the tun? Not that anyone make 20' toilet hose - but I think there has been an...

Mash tun manifold or SS braid?

I've fly sparged with braid and have had 75%+ efficiency. Since channeling occurs above the exit point of the wort doesn't it happen whether one has a braid "filter" or a manifold type "filter"?

Mash tun manifold or SS braid?

Am I missing something? Why is braid worthless for fly sparging? I really think it worked fine for me.

Mash tun manifold or SS braid?

I don't see why you wouldn't want to open the cooler. If you're fly sparging you want to keep a layer of water on top of the mashed grains while sparging so for me it makes sense to have a visual on that. But hey its home brewing and we tinker/invent/experiment.

Mash tun manifold or SS braid?

I built a manifold with some left over copper pipe I had after I had been using the SS braided hose. I thought I'd be slick and drill holes into my manifold instead of cutting slits with a hacksaw. Well, one stuck sparge later and I re-installed my hose braid and haven't looked back since. Point...

    Dry hopping without hops bags?

My guess is that they will clog your racking cane and tubing before they get to a muslin bag at the end of the transfer tubing/cane if you suck hop material into it. NB sells a metal sleeve called a "sure screen" that I have dry hopped in the keg with and never had a clog. Maybe you could put...

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

DVR is essential in my household. LOL.

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

I agree. I don't remember the Micromatic line I bought last time being an issue.

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

I bought 50' for four or 6 taps. Can I get away with 8' at about 10 psi? I can leave my kegerator as is right now and just divide the 50' by the four taps in my keezer for 12' per tap. Would 12' be better at 10 psi in keg? Also since the line is less flexible than vinyl do I need to use clamps...

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

Yeast Washing, Is it Really necessary?

I ferment in what is technically a bottling bucket. When I transfer to secondary I grab my trusty bottle of store bought distilled water (for the über technical not sterile - for me, close enough) and after draining I pour some distilled water on top of the yeast cake, give it a swirl, wait a...

    Chrome v Stainless Perlick?

I neglected my lines and trust me I felt much better taking my Perlicks apart and getting a brush to them. It was necessary. I couldn't get a stubborn film off that was clinging to the inside of my lines with warm oxy-clean free nor with beer line cleaner and the same film was on some of the...

    Chrome v Stainless Perlick?

One thing I noticed as I have chrome and stainless Perlicks is that there is a "guide" for the forward and back pivoting motion of the faucet that is plastic on the chrome model and stainless steel on the stainless model. I was concerned about possibly breaking the plastic piece when breaking...

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

For TheSlash have you tried the Bev Seal lines that have been recommended? Sure sucks to go through all the process involved to produce great beer to have it ruined by the line it comes out of. Is a SS line the ONLY answer? I'll say again my old Micromatic lines at least don't taste like...

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

I'm sure I'll go with the bev seal. Still soaking the Micromatic in baking soda, you know - in the name of scientific research. The irony in this situation is that I wanted to get everything tightened up before entering some beers in the NHC as I bottle out of the keg.

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

well one cup of baking soda dissolved in a half gallon of water soaked overnight didn't help. I still smell that vinyl tubing. 1. will let it keep soaking. 2. may try boiling it - maybe cut off a small piece and boil, will boiling damage the line? I remember reading that if you clean your beer...

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

Hammy I don't think it's in your head and Outside thanks for the heads up on the accuseal tubing. "Draft beer hose that meets the brewery’s criteria has passed through a series of quality tests, which include taste and odor evaluations." This is what Micromatic says on their website...

Can You Get Rid of Vinyl Taste in Beer Lines

I bought new beer lines yesterday they are Micromatic 3/16 id lines took everything apart taps, shanks, etc. and cleaned everything with brushes hot water and Oxyclean Free. My old lines had been in place a couple years and were neglected by me unfortunately to the point that when I ran the...

hello out there from the west coast!

Yeah I've always been an S-05 kinda guy. Let me know how it works if you try it. It's a simple recipe. Might be fun to play around with different yeasts. I am fermenting my first Irish Red right now that I have pitched with S-23 lager yeast. I am fermenting it at 58f. I like that yeast I know...
