    No secondary, how to bottle

I am fortunate enough to have an extra CO2 bottle/regulator or two in the brewery so I would/could hit it with a blanket of CO2 and rack onto CO2. Oxygenation in a big open bucket is definitely a concern though. On a side note I have found that long after airlock activity has ceased there...

    No secondary, how to bottle

Or, after carefully siphoning to the "other" bucket, instead of doing everything the same day use that "other" bucket like a secondary fermenter, let the beer sit a day or three, cold crash if possible to clear up and then transfer to the spigot bucket. Then bottle from the spigot bucket like...

    Mission Street Blonde Malt Suggestions

Trying to emulate the malt profile. What I get is a little toasty biscuity character and a fuller body than my last attempt at a blonde ale, which was mashed low, so that at least I can change easily. It's almost like a real subdued Fat Tire ale to me. Is this Vienna, Biscuit, Munich in addition...

    Mold in my beer bottles

Buy a couple kegs, some co2, another fermenter if you need it and brew up a couple new batches of beer. You have four weeks which is plenty of time. Then serve it out of the keg at the wedding. I doubt that it would be a good idea to try and serve the beer you currently have at a wedding.

Brewing Classic Styles Irish Red Recipe

I am in agreement with Hammy in that the ratios of the grains are important to the overall recipe, and you cant just throw more of one type of malt at a recipe without maintaining the ratios and expect the same beer. While I do realize that JZ does say to do just this and that to convert to AG...

Brewing Classic Styles Irish Red Recipe

Tying to convert the recipe in the book to all grain for the efficiency of my system, which is approximately 75%. 6 gallons calls for 11# MO and to get 4.1% of the crystal malts it calls for 8 oz. of crystal 40 and 120 respectively. The roasted barley that I get from my LHBS is more like the...

How to get the best hop aroma from flameout additions?

Are you concerned about additional bitterness from your 60 minute additions during the steep phase? Contrary to my last post I have learned that bitterness can be obtained just from the steep and I have been trying to calibrate my recipes as if a 30 minute steep at around 180 - 200 degrees...

Can Beer Line Cleaner Be Used to Clean a Keg?

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I flushed with water after the BLC, took out the dip tube and brushed it for good measure, and then flushed with Star-San. Thanks all for the responses.

Can Beer Line Cleaner Be Used to Clean a Keg?

    Anyone? Wrong forum? Perhaps bottling/kegging?

Can Beer Line Cleaner Be Used to Clean a Keg?

Pardon me if this has been covered before. I did a search on HBT and also on Google and didn't find the answer. I just cleaned my lines and faucets by running National Chemicals' beer line cleaner through my lines. I used a well rinsed and visually "clean" keg as a dispensing vessel for the...

    Dry Hopping & Sanitation

@bbrim I have a couple kegs with sure screens over the dip tubes just for the purpose of dry hopping in the keg. I hear ya - dry hopping in the fridge works although in the past I have drank most of it before it starts getting really good, plus the beer stays hazy for a really long time, at...

    Dry Hopping & Sanitation

I have a pale ale that is on day 7 of dry hopping with a mix of Willamette and Cascade that I taste tested last night and was really disappointed to taste a hint of sour whereas before I added the dry hops it was great no hint of off flavors. This is the second time I have tried adding the dry...

    Anything Unsafe in Stainless Nipples?

It may be because the nipples are advertised as "welded". Maybe it's something in the welding process. Another thought is that there is some certification - I think it is called ANSI, and maybe these products haven't been certified although they are perfectly safe 304 and 316 stainless, so...

@greyhound and thargrav, been kinda halfway expecting these kind of comments, lol.

    Anything Unsafe in Stainless Nipples?

That would explain why with my first conical that had a bad weld and rusted that it rusted into the two-piece 304 stainless ball valve. I am soaking the disassembled valve in oxy-clean free right now and scrubbing with a faucet brush but some of the rust is stubborn. Leads me to another...

    Anything Unsafe in Stainless Nipples?

Was looking for a 1/2" stainless nipple today and came across a website here http://www.zorotools.com/g/Sched.40%20Welded%20SS%20Nipples%201%202%22%20Pipe%20Size/00070959/#. When I went to add to my cart the website makes me swear that this wont be used in potable water applications in CA, MD...

Son of Fermentation Modification for Conical

Yes it's an inexpensive home heat/cool digital Hunter thermostat bought from Wal-Mart. The thermistor is cut out and soldered to a longer wire so I can lead it into the chamber. I dipped the tip in resin to protect it and I tape it to the fermenter so it reads the surface temp of the fermenter...

Son of Fermentation Modification for Conical

I think I probably live in one of the most expensive areas of the country. Everything costs a lot here. That might explain it. Maybe there's a discount if you are a contractor or something. Where did you get yours and how long ago? Anyway I thought it worth it to bring the conical into service...

Son of Fermentation Modification for Conical

Its $28 for the 4x8 sheet. They don't sell half sheets of this at HD and they don't sell it at Lowes at all, at least at the stores near where I am at.

Son of Fermentation Modification for Conical

Was able to modify my Son Of Fermentation chamber by adding 8" of foam to the top so that I could fit and now use my eBay SS conical and have temp control. For probably well over a year I have had this conical and never use it. Now I will. Only issue is I have a half sheet of foam left. If...
