Who else bought 2 pounds of pellet hops

Can that foodsaver you have really pull a nice strong vacuum? Also, do they all take the same refills or do the less $$ ones take pricier refill bags (so if they don't get you up front they get your $$ later)?

Craigslist STEAL!!!!!!!!! Hamden CT - DO IT

Awesome info on how to do better CL searches, thanks!

Who else bought 2 pounds of pellet hops

I bought about a day after the increase (DOH!). Have about 5 lb of pellets coming. Probably major overkill but maybe it'll prod me to brew more often... Also hedging against a complete lack of availability later in winter/spring. I guess now I need to buy one of those food saver dealies, or...

Craigslist STEAL!!!!!!!!! Hamden CT - DO IT

Is there an easy way to search every geography for Craigslist, or do you just have to randomly search state by state? Also, can you set up a search so it e-mails you when there are new results? I'm big on CL, but don't use e-bay at all any more - too many bad experiences as buyer and as...

Any downside to ferminting 5g in 7.9 bucket?

I use one like that for my wine kits, and have tried to avoid using it on beer to avoid flavor transfers. It's nice, though, wish I had a second one just like it for beer -- it seals up very tightly. I use a fementer bucket I bought in the early 90's for my beers when I'm not doing a hefe --...

    Planing Cider Yeast Experiment

Just the end taste and end FG corrected for temperature. Assuming they'll all ferment at identical conditions. If you were usingi a hefe yeast (WLP300) you might try it at 68F or so.

    Tron's Better Bottle Warmer

Where does the water flow, or does it just sit in the interior of the drain pan, so the carboy is never actually touching the water? When you set the water for 70F, and the large carboy is sitting 1/2 inch above the water, if the room temp is 60, will the carboy liquid even come close to 65F...

    ALCS... anyone still care??

Agreed! +1 This could end up a great evening or a huge downer. I think I'll cover my bases with some beer either way.

    Friday Night Tastings

Good point, too -- yeah, everyone can probably reasonably find Sam Adams, SNPA, Smuttynose, etc. but most have already tried the mainstream micros, so this would be tough unless everyone purchased identical memberships to a beer of the month club or something... I was in one of those, jeez...

    Brewed CA Common Beer Today

How'd this one come out? A couple questions about your recipe -- full 5 gallon boil, or just 2.5 gallons and then top up to 5? Target IBU?

    Double Alt

JeffG or Bird ever do an update on how this came out? Looking to do maybe a LongTrail double bag type beer soon...

Puddle under door of Sanyo 4912 kegerator

OK, took everything out of the kegerator today. The back plate is thick with ice behind and especially beneath it. The water appears to be condensation from the back plate, that is dripping to the front and leaking out the door. So, comment about leveling the fridge -- great point, I need to...

    Bostonians current and past

Yeah, they are definitely a great band to see on St. Patty's day. We almost saw them on St. Patty's in Boston a couple years back but it was too much of a zoo so we went elsewhere.

    Homebrewing Cost analysis.

I think you've summed it all up perfectly, Cheese. The quality of beer isn't that big of an issue for me, my extract brews fortunately have been coming out AWESOME, but I'm a gearhead/gadget type, so the building up equipment has a huge appeal to me, as well as the final thing you said about...

    Homebrewing Cost analysis.

But gosh, Bill, you brew a LOT! If I bought bulk DME, I think I'd have a big 25 lb bag of hard brown stuff in my basement after about 3 months! I'm at least harvesting and washing yeasts, which helps some. I wish I bought some bulk hop pellets last year when they were 1/2-1/3 price! I...

Screwy faucet threads - no ability to connect wort chiller to kitchet faucet

I keep it uncovered and stir it the whole time with same spoon I use during the entire boil (I never take it out of the wort so it stays santized. So far no infections, but have to be careful not to let sweat drip into it and also watch for splashing the icebath water into it. I thoroughly...

    mold on wort

Might not even be mold. I get odd looking "floaties" on top of some of my beers and haven't had a problem. If you skim the stuff off with a sanitized spoon, you'll probably be fine, just watch for re-currence. Oops, I see you haven't had any airlock activity -- so you may need to re-pitch...
