Welcome! I get up to Bangor pretty regularly for work - nice up there, and a pretty good store for buying beer (actually a gas station, right off one of the exits just north of Bangor, they carry all kinds of microbrews) that I stop in when I'm driving through.

Taking a pass on brewing this weekend - too much going on: brother in town for visit, party tonight along with Red Sox game, brunch and going to Pats game tomorrow, I'll be ready for the weekend first thing Monday morning!

Just a thin paste with cornstarch and vodka. Spread it on thinly and evenly, and you'll see it dry quickest where the refrigerant lines are.

I vote yest, because in my opinion EVERYONE is a nerd. I've been around all types, and even the bad aZZ bikers and guys with felony convictions, etc. have a lot of nerd in them. Yup, even the "cool" are "nerds! Brewing itself does not make someone a nerd. "Nerd" are not inherently attracted...

I use an old 5 gallon pail for a blowoff container, keeps me from having to babysit. Mine (when I do hefes in a 6.5 gallong carboy) blows off even at 64-66F. Like Yuri said, the temp is going to effect the flavor a lot, and the blowoff not-so-much... Good luck, though, I hope you have a tasty...

Not that you asked for it, but my #1 suggestion for making your hefe come out well is keeping a stable fermentation temp in the range that gives the flavor profile you want. I like the clovey-ness of genuine German hefe, so I tend to ferment at a cool temp, around 64-66F. I still found that I...

Based on the photo of what your SWMBO would like, as compared with your $4k budget, you will have a lot of compromises to make. Personally, if possible I'd try to bump the budget, go through with the permiting process, pour a slab, and move along from there --- even if it meant that the "shed"...
