need another critique - creme ale

Yup, you can be drinking a hefe in about 3 weeks if you time it right and maybe even 16 days or so if you are kegging! This thread has the recipe that I've been regularly using. I found I had to tweak the hops quantity and timing (on the bittering hops) but got it perfect my 2nd time on out -...

    Want to brew AG

That was a better idea than the sticky, good thinking.

Help - I want to achieve buttery chardonnay from kit

I think those ideas sound like I should try them on next batch!

Post a pic of you and your other hobbys

    Glad to hear that!

    my rig...

Where'd you get those kettles? They're nice and not overly huge like keggles. I'd like to get a set of 3 like you have, but scared it's set me back $500-$600! If you found a reasonable source, and like the thickness & quality, please share!

Want to make a good Merlot

Well, the one kit I bought that was expensive said to age minimum of 1-4 years in the Northern Brewer's "blurb" about the kit. I bought the special 7.5 gallon wine bucket w/lid w/o-ring seal. Basically the step by step on how to do this can be found on this guy's website, it gives you a great...

    woodchuck cider

Supposedly the hefe yeasts are giving the best results if you're looking for residual sweet flavor vs. tartness. If you want it sweet like Woodchuck, I don't think you can bottle. If you're kegging, just take daily samples of the cider from the carboy. When it hits a taste that you like while...

Want to make a good Merlot

I've also made a Vintner's Reserve kit, for a white wine, a Pinot Blanc. It came out great! The instructions say "Your kit will take between 4 and 6 weeks to produce." We put the kit together into the bucket and pitched yeast etc. on Easter day. We bottled it in early August, and it was...

What stupid things did you used to think were true?

First off I have to say this is a pretty cool thread! I used to think that beer was very unforgiving, no room for errors/mistakes/deviations from recipes exact instructions, along with the paranoia about infection. Now I know, beer's pretty damn forgiving! Who here brews without drinking a...

    Want to brew AG

I was wondering if there was a sticky for those of us wanting to move over to AG/PM.

need another critique - creme ale

Agree, hefe is a standard in my kegerator. Except that I'm all out right now!

    Avery's Maharaja Imperial IPA

Yeah, I tasted it and it seemed floral and citrusy to me, not sure about the hops being all noble hops...

Opened my first home brew tonight

It looks good, should be nice in another few weeks -- congrats on your first beer!

    Charcoal or Propane?

I use propane, and I think I have pretty much mastered it, which is great! I never got close to mastering charcoal. The big green egg looks awesome -- the best hotdog in New England is made by a little roadside stand (mobile, he has a Honda Ridgeline and a trailer) about 3 miles from my house...

    Another Brewout in Phoenix

Sorry, can't make it -- but seeing that address -- it's only a short ways from where we once lived, up by 51st ave and Union Hills - brought back some memories. Moved away from there in 94, and back then if you went up to Rose Garden it was still pretty undeveloped! Hope you have a nice...

Anyone worked up or seen a clone of this Maharaja yet?

What's Brewing This Weekend? Oct. 13-14

Looks nice. Assuming you mean 8.5 lb of German Pils Malt, vs. the 8.5 oz... Could one of these be done as an extract/steep, or will it taste too "extracty"? I haven't stepped up to AG yet.

    Question

Basically you're saying you've dry hopped it late, and now the keg will be the secondary and dry hop -- this will be no problem, but the aroma might take a week or two to settle into the brew.

Post a pic--let's see your ugly mugs

Bobby, that blowoff tube looks WAY small for a hefe filled so high up in the carboy!

I screwed up in a good way...

Get yoursef a big straw and start in on that brown ale -- who needs bottles or carbonation!
