New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

That's right. I usually don't use any other tabs than Recipe and Notes.. I often forget it has stuff like that in there... I'll check it out and go from there.. Hopefully the full two weeks and less priming sugar fixes what went wrong last time...Thanks again! Funny side note.. Just for ****s...

New England IPA Julius clone (BYO magazine)

Actually, had it backwards... Adding these on day 3: 2.50 oz Citra, 2.00 oz Mosaic, 1.50 oz Simcoe. On Day 10 adding: 1oz Simcoe and 1oz Citra

New England IPA Julius clone (BYO magazine)

Brewed my 2nd batch of this on Saturday. Went with 1lb flaked oats, and 8oz on all the 5oz additions, and did a 60 minute boil of 1oz Amarillo instead of the hop shot. Pitched 2nd generation Conan yeast. OG was 1.060 on 5.5 gallons (including a little kettle trub?). It's been very active the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

So I don't know how many of you still bottle this style (I don't have a keg setup as of now, so I am bottler), but how much priming sugar are you using? My last batch I used my standard 5oz/5 gallon batch, but I bottled it after a week as it dropped down and didn't go any further than 1.018...

Anyone have any recommendations for a substitute for the malted oats? I ordered some but I am afraid it's not going to get here by my brew day, so was going to pick up a pound of something as a replacement from my LHBS in case it doesn't arrive in time.

haha. Yeah I used 8ml according to the recipe. I clean/scrubbed it over and over and I still feel like it wasn't back to normal. Cool idea, but a damn mess.

I've had Conan take mine from 1.064 to 1.018 in around the same time... That was a fresh bought package too. I'm getting ready to use a 2nd generation of it this weekend, but first time around I was really impressed with how fast it worked.

I am going to brew this again this weekend. I was thinking about not doing any bittering hops at all. But keep going back and fourth on substituting something in for the hop shot instead... I really didn't like how hard that stuff was to clean after haha. I was just thinking about Citra...

Oatmeal Stout Flapjack Breakfast Stout (Chocolate-Coffee-Oatmeal-Maple Imperial Stout)

So I'm going to give this brew a shot in about 3 weeks, with a little tinkering. I'm going to do a couple different tinctures which I will add in both around 7 days in the primary. I started one tincture yesterday, which was 4oz of bourbon on 2oz of med. roast oak cubes. I will put the...

So far, so good. I'll be coming up on 3 weeks this Saturday but it's a yellow-orange now. Which yeast did you use when it turned colors? I used Conan on mine.. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know if the color starts to drop out

Time to necromance this thread, but curious to those who have tried a tincture, what type of bourbon are you using? I'm debating between using a tincture and just dropping everything into the fermenter.. trying to weigh options but curious how it turned out with a tincture? Thanks

So forgot to follow up on this. I bottled a week after I brewed the beer. It didn't drop any further than 1.018 which I was fine with where it was at. Love the flavor and head retention, it turned out pretty good. The color was slightly darker than I wanted but that's a small complaint. I plan...

Dry hopped today, and almost surprised to see it's just about finished already... Sitting at 1.018 this morning. Conan does some fast work.

    My backyard hop situation

Definitely protect them from dogs. When ingested by dogs, they produce hypothermia-like symptoms... So make sure to keep them away, regardless if they're attracted to them or not!

Brew day went great-for the most part-on Saturday. One simple rookie mistake that I am just kicking myself for however. Took my SG once I was ready to boil and it came out at 1.040. I drew 7.5 gallons, which is more than I generally take, but I wanted to overshoot a bit to get closer to 6...

So I think I have got it figured out now... Tell me if these numbers sound ballpark correct using with distilled water (basing it off ~4 gallons for the mash) CaCl2 - 5g or 1 1/2 tsp SO4 - 2g or 1/2 tsp From what I calculate, that should bring the mash water to something like this: Ca - 121...

New England IPA Julius clone (BYO magazine)

You are right. I have it and have tried to go through and use it and it did confused the heck out of me haha. It's quite a bit of info, and having been removed from chemistry for, oh 13ish years, it's an overwhelming crash course, that's for sure. I understood some of it and I am attempting to...

New England IPA Julius clone (BYO magazine)

Thanks, I was actually leaning towards distilled after much reading on it yesterday. So I've done much reading on the CaCl2:SO4 ratios, but I guess I am not fully understanding (or remembering from high school chemistry) how you separate the Ca numbers from the Cl #s. I have some Calcium...

Well if this one doesn't turn out right, I'll try the 1318 next time. Just thought I'd switch it up and see what happens. I'll post results.. planning on brewing this Saturday. My biggest hurdle now is trying to get the water right. I have bought bottled 5 gallon water in the past, but I have...
