Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

Is this recipe a red IPA? 3 pounds of honey is a boatload! My experience is that hornindal leaves a higher FG than most, my NEIPA tend to end up around 1.018-1.020 and that’s with 1/4 lb of honey or aromatic. Make sure to post an update when the beer is done, I’m curious to see what the FG is...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I used juniper branches in mine - eastern red cedar (they are down right invasive here in Oklahoma). I replaced my mash filter with a bed of small branches, it ended up working but it was a PITA, the branches want to float. It was also a raw ale so I steeped some hops and more juniper in the...

Did you DH at 95? I alway drop the temp down before DH, the idea of DHing at 90-100 never sit well with me. Might be where get the bitterness from.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

So I’m guessing I should mash a little high when I use it for NEIPA, I used sacch trois in an IPA before (back when they still thought it was Brett) I think it ended up in the 1010-1012 range

I know a lot of you guys on here like using imperial a24 dryhop. I just picked up a package yesterday, I plan to use it in a NEIPA but I have a brut ipa planned for this weekend. You guys think this would work well in a brut?

-"Brewers are continuing to innovate and evolve the style, with the style trending towards a less bitter presentation to the point of making a mockery of the term “IPA”." Seems like the BJCP is a little salty about adding this style.

I’m hoping coconut will come through, lots of pineapple though. I quit using flaked grains probably 10 batches ago probably won’t go back. Flaked oats seemed to leave a coating sticky sweetness on the finish that I was not fond of, kind of reminds me of artificial sweeteners. Oat malt adds that...

I also ferment in a keg with the CBDS, I always serve straight from primary now, works great. Maybe I’ll go back to jumping it to a fresh keg to compare. It’s just so convenient serving it from primary! I recently needed a full 5 gallons for a homebrew festival (anyone in Oklahoma interested...

Hornindal Kveik is blowing my mind

I had a batch of hornidal with juniper take on a slight tartness after the beer cleared and sat in the keg for a while. I just chalked it up to it being a raw ale and maybe lacto took hold. We ferment these beers at temperature lacto loves. Then again it could be the yeast, but I haven’t had...

I know some of you guys have been using sabro hops, I’m making a pineapple ipa tomorrow. Any suggestions on how much I should use in whirlpool and and DH. I also have Amarillo, Idaho 7, azacca, el Dorado.

I have some comet and equinox I need to use up, I also have Citra, mosaic, and Medusa to blend in as needed. I know equinox is good for whirlpool and DH, but what suggestions do you all have about using comet? Or any good combo of these.

Yeah, I’ve never bagged before but this got me thinking about it. http://brulosophy.com/2019/03/11/impact-of-stainless-mesh-filter-on-dry-hop-character-exbeeriment-results/

I could but it’s a major PITA. I use this 7cu ft fridge and it fits 2 5 gal corny plus a 3 gal corny and co2 bottle on the ‘hump’ in the back. In the past I’ve had to pull all the kegs out and put a step stool in there that’s level with the hump for carboys to fit.

Cold crash will be hard for me, I usually do it in the keggerator since I ferment in keg. I never used bags before but I feel like it will be a clogged mess without one. I think I’ll try a closed loop with a water purged keg like the picture below. Then again the bag might get sucked into the...

For you guys using fermonsters, are you bagging your dryhops? I usually ferment in kegs with a floating dip tube but I find myself needing to produce a full 5 gallons for some events. I was thinking about buying one with a spigot and pushing it out with co2. Anyone doing this?

Is caramunich something you regularly use? I’ve tried a quarter lb of honey, crystal 10 and 20, and aromatic malt. I think I like the aromatic the most. Maybe I’ll give caramunich a try, I’m guessing you use caramunich l? Caramunich ll is probably too dark.

What’s your grain bill for that first picture? I’m liking that color.
