Request: Mother Earth Boo Koo IPA Recipe

Based on the description you posted it's a SMaSH recipe. 100% pilsner malt. For hops maybe start at .5oz to bitter add a 10 minute and FO addition till you get to 65 ibu. Software like beer Smith will be one heck of a timesaver for you on this.

    Bags inside a steamer basket?

I normally recirculate a few gallons during the mash to help a little. Still get 80% or so efficiency.

    S-04 good or bad.

I haven't had major issues. I keep S-04 and US-05 in stock at all times.

    Robobrew 2.5 gal small batch

I have owned a robobrew for close to a year for 5 gallon batches. I have been sparging with hot tap water and have been getting excellent results. I have been seeing about 80 - 85% eff on my brews. 2.5 gallons will be a breeze I had one to blow up on me but more beer took great care of me.

American Brown Ale Brulosopher's Dark Brown Ale

I just got around to brewing this yesterday. I shot a 1.060. the wort tasted like it's going to be roasty in a good way. I bittered with magnum and I went with 1oz Cascade @ 10 mins. Eliminated the Willamette. Basically because I didn't have any. I pitched US-05 also. I'll see in a...

How do you take Refractometer readings?

That is interesting. Your situation happened to me one time pre-boil. My issue was that I needed to stir the wort a little to make sure everything mixed in evenly. Once I did that readings were good.

How do you take Refractometer readings?

Did you let the wort cool before taking the reading? Even pulling from mash at 150 degrees plus is still a bit hot. How much grain was in your grain bill?

    My very first home brew!

LMAO.....it's the 2nd. I haven't made it to lagers yet! Been kegging for about 2 years. That's the 2nd fridge. Trying to figure out where I can get a fermenting/lagering fridge in the house without pissing off the wife. Lol.

    My very first home brew!

Sadly enough he is correct. I have been brewing about 3 years but I have managed to keep it down to 2 refrigerators. Lol.

    redneck temperature control

+1 on this. Save old soda bottles, juice bottles or milk jugs when they are empty. I tend to keep about 5 or 6 in the freezer. That way in the summer months I can rotate 2 to 3 bottles twice a day in the summer months down here in Atlanta. Assuming I'm fermenting in the garage.

    Help me plan big event!

That is a good point. I think a simple APA would do the trick

    Help me plan big event!

I would do centennial blonde and a good Amber. That will take care of the BMC drinkers, the beer snobs, and anyone in between.

American Brown Ale Brulosopher's Dark Brown Ale

It's interesting how this post may have slipped through the cracks over the years. I'm thinking of brewing this soon. Let us know if you have perfected this over the past 5 years.

    Anyone brewing with medusa?

I had a weird white grape kinda of flavor. My hop additions used Medusa and Cascade. Was not a bad beer just not my thing.

Suggestions for additions to an Imperial Amber?

I actually like the ginger idea. My wonder is how much to add before the ginger heat would overpower the beer.

How do you smash a Wyeast smash pack?

Crazy enough....on my first ever brew day a few years ago, I Bruce Bannered a pack of 1056 and the whole thing exploded in my kitchen. Lucky for me I still had a LHBS at the time. Now I just use S-05. Lol.
