    Fermenter advice

I have ss brewtech chronical custom modified to bme, brewbucket and glycol chiller. Be prepared to spend $$ on temp control if you go with a conical, especially if you have multiple fermenters. They don't fit easily in upright fridges and freezers. You really will want the glycol because...

    Fermentation Temp Control

if you are using carboys or buckets your best bet is a chest freezer with temp controller that will switch the freezer or the heater wrap as needed. if you are using a conical like me you can drop some $$$ for ftss with glycol chiller.

DIY Water Filter with Camlock Quick Disconnects

Good point. I only use the filter to go into the kettle. Never keep the water running and have the hoses blocked. Those hoses blow up like water balloons!

Mash Out Water Calculations Way Off

I mash in a 10 gallon cooler. I always hit my mash in temp with Beersmith calculations. I find that hitting the mash out temp with near boiling water using the calculations is way off. I would say that I end up adding double or more to the point my 10 gallon cooler is almost full for a 5...

    Wort circulation while chilling?

I circulate through my plate chiller during the whirlpool to sanitize it then straight into the fermentor in a single pass. No need to go back into the kettle.

    Keg conditioning without carbing

I condition and dry hop in the keg at room temperature to free up my fermenter

    KegCo regulators. Experiences?

Having bought the kegco I later bought taprite. Just buy the taprite and the good taps like intertap. Don't get sucked in by the lower prices as you'll spend more replacing them later when you are unhappy with them. I am very happy with my kegco kegs tho.

Strange flavor on last 4 brews- frustrated

How do you control temps? You'd be surprised how much higher the temperature inside the fermenter is during active fermentation. I have a closet that is a constant 67. I used to assume it would be fine with no temp control. After a few meh brews, I added a thermowell and found I was going...

DIY Dual Chugger Pump Switch Box

You want that gfci downstream. If you don't have a gfci plug where you're brewing, get a gfci extension cord.

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you have enough beer, the fermenters are full, and you're still itching to brew a batch.
