    Serving / kegging question

i see a few cooling plates around here, and a while back a buddy was a brewer (way back - Navy times) and he legged his brews and used a chill plate to serve. So - after kegging and cooling for a bit, can I pull the kegs out of a cooler and run the tap through a chiller to serve?

    Kegging questions

Ok one more - not all the kegs had a short tube, concern? And some were 1/4”, some were 1.5” - leading me to believe they’re inconsequential. Looks like I need to get more gaskets at a minimum. Ok, 2 more - once I’m done disassembling, cleaning, reassembling - I don’t need to do this after...

    Kegging questions

Ok, as I said, more questoins. Got a decent price on 8 pin lock corny kegs, ok condition i guess. Bought all new seal kits, and all new poppet assemblies. Couple spare fittings as well. Some of the covers have what looks like a relief valve (automatic), others have a straight rod with no...

    Kegging questions

Thanks again - great responses, very appreciative. Getting a couple cornys for my next set of brews (this week) - I’m sure I’ll have more as I go through. Happy New Year

    Kegging questions

Hi - still new at brewing (just bottled my 4th and 5th brews and I’m hooked), but not fond of the multitude of bottles around the house (actually, I really don’t care, but my wife has some opinions), so looking at getting into kegging. Questions: When bottling, I use priming sugar, then bottle...

    Bottles

Ok thanks. I’m a germophobe, so my bottles are almost boiled the second they’re emptied, so this is a bit odd

    Bottles

hi, I just received a lode of bottles from someone who hasn’t brewed in a while. Little dusty, no big deal, but crusty residue inside. Only a couple cases, but worth saving, or just dump? If keep, how do I clean them? I soaked in sanitizer for a while, some came out, not sure if just soaking...

    Yuk

So...longer in the fermenter before dry hop? I usually (yes, 4 brews worth of experience) leave in for 2+weeks, mainly due to time availability, some laziness. For this I’m hoping it’s drinkable by Christmas, but fully expect it to get better after a couple months after bottling

    Yuk

Got it, thanks. 5th brew, first one I’ve tasted, heard it somewhere. Maybe that was pre bottling? No worries though, great day, and 5 more gallons of beer. I haven’t bought beer from a store in ages.

Yeah...bad beer is still beer, just drink it later in the day or serve it to people I don’t like (or who have no clue because quality beer to them is bud...) Still have to dry hop, maybe that’ll give it some taste that’s not tree-like On a good note, my daughter home from college and we had a...

How Many Gallons of Homebrew in 2018?

5 gal dogfish head ipa (I think...didn’t look like an ipa, or taste like anything drinkable) 10,987.5+5 = 10,992.5

    Yuk

just made a Dogfish 90 min ipa from a recipe I found on American home brewers site, extract version. Got good og numbers (082 vs 086), but it seems really dark, and tastes like tree bark. First ipa, -probably should have started with a kit, but that’s in the past... Is this normal, or am I in...

    Boil question

Thanks, great info. I do have a chiller, just made it (no leaks yay), didn’t have to use it on this batch - when I topped to 5.5gal it was at 71f (cold NY water). I have 2 pots that can handle over 6 gal, so I don’t have to put any wort in a carboy until I’m ready to pitch. And yes, very...

    Boil question

Thank you. I have the capacity, just bought a new pot. Was kinda annoying seeing under 2 gal in a huge pot - not to mention being outside in NY winter the steam made it hard to see if it was actually rolling. 6-8 gal boils for me!

    Boil question

Just finished my 4th brew, first three from a kit with detailed instructions, 4th is from a recipe I found here. All three using extracts The kits all had me start the boil with 2.5gal then add extracts and hops, so I did that with the 4th. Long boil (for me), and at the end I had just under...

    IPA hop schedule question

Ah ok. I just realized I could put hops in a bag while reading another thread Honestly, never occurred to me lol. Free swimming hops...love it. I double strain, big colander, then Fine mesh into carbon. Tedious, especially with a lot of hops. I’d think constraining the hops to a bag...

    IPA hop schedule question

Ok thanks. Guess this begs a followup question; After I boil and cool, I strain when transferring to the fermenter. That’s correct or no?

    IPA hop schedule question

Hiya - looking at a Russian river Pliny the Elder clone recipe. https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/homebrew-recipe/russian-river-pliny-the-elder-clone/ Hop schedule pretty intense for my experience-but there’s 2 adds at 0 min What does that mean? Put them in at the end and strain them...
