Boilermaker Brewing
I just purchased Boilermaker Brewing dot com a few weeks ago.
I'm from Kewanee, IL which is the home of the Kewanee Boilermakers and the Kewanee Boiler Mfg. So it only seemed fitting to find a name that involved Boiler and/or Boilermakers into the name.
Now just to...
+Eleventy bijillon on the auto siphon.
Once you get one you will never use a racking cane again.
Now the only downside to auto siphons is the fact that you can't use hot liquid. Including hot water to clean. Stick with warm water for clean up.
For me personally I have quite large hands. Before I wired up the power plug I tested if my hand could fit into the opening. No matter what I did I couldn't fit my hand far enough into the disposal to touch any of the blades.
With that said next year will bring about a few changes.
1.) Add...
Yep, Staggered Nutrient Additions (SNA).
It worked out very well for my last mead so I am going to follow the same regimen with this cider, and my perry as well.
Just finished my first SNA on 5gallons of fresh pressed cider, and I added 1.5 cups of Turbinado sugar and 1.5 cups of wildflower honey.
Should be pitching some EC-1118 here in a couple hours!
I'm overloaded with yeast (plus I have 2 packs of 1026 on its way) and I am interested in your ideas of what to brew next.
For now I'm going to focus on the style to brew and then once we narrow that down I can start looking into recipes.
Here is the yeast I have sitting in my fridge (this...
In this instance I think a gift card is very practical. Most men (when it comes to tools/hobbies) know exactly what they want.
My SWMBO is very bright but if she tried to suprise me with a peice of brewing equipment I'm sure I would be happy with the gesture. But more than likely it either...
Yeah Dave does use quite a bit of smoked malt in their smoked porter.
I used 24% in my Smoked Imperial Porter and I would easily double that. Speaking of which you have tasted that beer, granted all that might have come thru was the Habaneros, but the smoke was way too subdued.
So I think...
I racked and pressed 6 gallons of a Merlot and 6 gallons of a Cabernet Sauvignon.
Then the head brewer of Schlafly Beer stopped by with 4 bushels of apples and we put my new homemade garbage disposal crusher to work.
It didn't take long to build and ate thru apples and pears like there was...
Mark mine down as half brewed. I knocked out one 5 gallon batch today. OG came in at 23 Brix before the candi sugar addition.
I should have time to brew the original recipe tomorrow.
Should have these done sooner but life gets in the way.
Nice! I jumped into wine this year and have about 15 gallons going. How did the cheese making go? That is my next project since I've done wine, cider, mead and beer this year. Cheese just seemed like the next choice.
I have a box of Titrets to test for so2 but after reading further both my book (Techniques in Home Winemaking) and the instructions both state "This test kit is not recommended for use with red wines or white wines containing ascorbic acid or tannin. These wines often give false high test...
