    Blow off tube question

I use a skinny pint bottle with about an inch of cheap vodka in the bottom.

    my thermometer broke help plz

My understanding is that yeast don't die when exposed to cold, they just go dormant. You have yeast in the bottles, and something for them to eat in the bottles....... I betcha everything turns out to be fine after a coupel weeks at 70 degrees.

Bottom of the bucket over carbed?

I can do that! I'll check back in in a month or three with the results.

Bottom of the bucket over carbed?

I use one cup of water per 5oz sugar for priming. There is a definite swirling action from the siphon, even with a full bucket. I dump the sugar mix into the bottling bucket and siphon on top of it. (I'm conscious of not mixing air into the beer.) I'll try doubling the water for the...

Bottom of the bucket over carbed?

I noticed a long time ago that random bottles of beer are just waaaay to carbed. I had a theory that they were the last several bottles out of the bottling bucket, so I've been keeping track of the last six beers bottled from each batch. Every single one of the latest bottom of the bucket...

Is it ok that I don't really feel like going all grain?

I work all week, and I play in a band on the weekends. Extract is as far as I plan on going, and I like the results. I just don't think I have time for AG.

    Forgot the finings

Thanks guys! I'll leave it out this time around. Everything went really smoothly on brewing day. My wife said it was faster than usual. After I got my bucket settled in the basement I was like DOH!! Thanks for the speedy replies!

    Forgot the finings

I neglected to put the Irish moss in my brew kettle. I have yet to add honey to my primary. Can I boil the Irish moss in the water I'm going to dissolve the honey in and call it good, or should I just forgo the moss altogether? :mug:

    Cherry Ale

I just picked up a couple of bottles of 68 brix tart cherry concentrate. I'm sort of wondering about when and how much to add myself.

    Your favorite kits?!?!?!

My favorite kit is Coopers Real Ale. I throw 3lb of light hopped DME in and the end result is great! (I just finished the last of my first batch of this stuff, and after 6 months in the bottle, it was amazing!)

What to do to spice this beer up?

I'd stay away from the powdered sugar. There is more than just sugar in there. (cornstarch maybe?) They use an additive to prevent caking at any rate. I usually throw 2# of honey into the mix just to bump the ABV,

    Coopers Real Ale results

The bottle conditioning is freaky! I've got a batch that tasted like ass after three weeks. I tried one after 5 weeks, and it aint half bad.

    Coopers Real Ale results

It only gets better with time! I got inspiration from your original post and brewed the same recipe with the pre hopped DME. I bottled it Saturday, and I'm going to try to leave it undisturbed for a month. I still have 2 bottles of the original batch left (I think it's been close to three...

    Howdy

I've been lurking for a while and just signed up. I'm pretty new at the home brew thing, but I'm definitely digging it.

    My Cooper's Real Ale

I'm pretty new at homebrewing (batch #5 brewing now) and the Coopers Real Ale is the best thing I've found so far. I use a can of Coopers 3# Light Hopped DME 1oz Liberty Hops (3aau) at 10min Let it sit in the bucket for 2 weeks, and bottle condition for 4, and I'd put it up against any...
