    The (im)patience game

I usually find the thing that helps to pass the time is brew more! And it also helps build up the pipeline and once that's done it helps with the waiting part.

    Smaller batch, no airlock bubbling?

More than likely that's what it is. When I do a 3 1/2 gallon batch in my 5 gallon it'll take up to and sometimes over 24 hours for my airlock to show any activity. If you've got krausem then you're in good shape.

Preparing For First Brew -- Final Questions!

    1. You could add your LME at flame out, I usually waited for about 10 minutes left in the boil, shut heat off, add LME and stir it real good while adding. Then boil the last 10 mins. 2. Cooling- you didn't mention how you planned on cooling, you have an immersion cooler of just an ice bath...

    The (im)patience game

I'd recommend at least 2 weeks fermenting. And at least 2 weeks after bottling. Even tho it's probably done fermenting after a week yeast is going to clean up your beer even more. Plus an extra week in primary is easier to hold back on then the full bottles in your closet. When I first started...

    Fermentation -- Time Needed

If I was you, depending on how low you're going to be gone I would leave it. I leave everything at least 2 weeks in primary. If it's a recipe with a lot of germ tables I'll go long. I just did a pumpkin pie ale I plan on leaving for a month in primary.

    Finished fermentation? Ready to bottle?

I don't know what it is about the extract kits but I had the same trouble and it seems pretty common. The few I had never got below 1.022. I had posted about it a few weeks ago. If you've taken readings and they haven't changed at all then you're all done fermenting...

    Competition Section in Forum?

I'd be interested in that. Being able to know what's coming up, how to enter. Talk amongst everyone about advice and scoring. It'd also be cool if say someone took the advice on said thread and did well and posted about it. I think all aspects of a tread like that would be great.

    Batch volume

That's about what I do. I boil just over 4 gallons and end up with almost 3.5. I run any recipes thru a calculator and it's only off by a few points. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Like grog said, it's mostly about your process and efficiency. I only run mine thru a calculator to keep track...

Are all auto siphons created equal? So pissed

How does your hose fit? I had a hose on mine that was super tight. So tight I had to warm it up to get it on the racking cane part. And I changed it to a longer hose that was supposedly the same size 3/8. But when I put it on it slid right on easily and since it didn't fit tight I kept losing my...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

Well it's about that time. I know that this is an old thread, but I spent 5 days when I first signed up reading all 232 pages of this recipe. I figured I better brew it now so 4 weeks fermenting and at least 4 months in the bottle I should have it ready just in time for Thanksgiving I scaled...

    Greetings and question

Welcome aboard! As you've probably seen there is tons of great info and great people here to answer just about any questions you can think of. It sounds like if you're going thru more CO2 than normal you probably have a leak in your system. I haven't done any kegging in a few years but he's...

    Sanitizing

+1 to everything mongoose said. That's pretty much how I do it all to. I get everything out while I'm boiling and get my starsan in my bucket. Soon as I flame out I start sanitizing everything. Plus a spray bottle comes in handy

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

I've got a chocolate covered peanut butter stout that's been sitting in the secondary on cocoa nibs and 2 jars of pb2 that's ready for bottling, but I can't get to it til Saturday. I did take a sample tonight and it was amazing! A little alcohol burn tho at 8.3% but it tasted like I had peanut...

    Wort Chiller connection help

I would disconnect the cold line right at the fitting where it's labeled cold. See if that's 3/8 or 1/2". Get a copper "T" and attach it where you disconnected the could. One should face vertical and one should face towards the cupboard door. Attach a ball valve to each. Then attach your cold...

    Might throw in the towel

+1 on everything that's been said. I along with probably a few people here started with Mr. Beer. Looking back it didn't make very good beer. But at the time I thought it was drinkable. I made probably 10 batches on it and I had found every batch got a little better. The one good thing about...

    Fermenting stopped. Help

I wouldn't do anything. Just because it looks or seems like nothing is happening you won't know unless you take a reading with a hydrometer.

    Robobrew is now for sale

Im going to have to keep an eye on that. I was thinking about getting the mash and boil but the Robobrew seems like a better value for a little bit more $. I had seen the Robobrew advertised in the last More Beer catalog I got but it said coming in the spring. They have it listed at $399 in the...
