disparity between wine makers and beer makers

Now you're talking! ... my approach as well. But it sound to me like you might just be making grape cider? - which would be great. I don't know anything about wine I just make ciders with a variety of other flavoring 100% pure juices. I'd guess with what you described you're at about 8% alcohol...

Bent lid opening? Worth trying to salvage?

I hadn't seen this when I replied - so yes you had already answered my question - thanks

Bent lid opening? Worth trying to salvage?

Yeah, there are just times when no matter how hard one tries getting metal back into it's original form it's a lost cause, too many variables. To hold again I might guess the curvature couldn't have the tiniest imperfection. Or, maybe I'm all washed up and it's easy. :) Anyone every tried and...

Bent lid opening? Worth trying to salvage?

Didn't follow protocol attempted to put this into service without pressure test. Overnight with PBW, thorough rinses, new O-rings all-around. Warm water w/ Starsan closed lid to shake, held over sink, water pouring out. Inspection seems to point to a slightly deformed lid opening? Tried another...

Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

( ...was intending to let this thread pass into history because I'm sure you are all tired of hearing from this noob ... but ... ) Have had success with, after a batch is finished fermenting, before opening and transferring, being ready with fresh ingredients. I've gone maybe four or so rounds...

Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

Thanks for the reply - looks like the link didn't come through but was that for an inline filter? Yeah that could be good

Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

@Bassman2003 your thoughtful replies are immeasurably generous and highly appreciated We're agreed on trimming dip, so here's a thought. You suggested starting at 1/2" to 3/4" and observations reveal that sounds good (as to be expected from a master) :) But another twist, if you please ...

Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

🤣 Yes, agreed! - Yep, of course you're exactly right. I just got on this track last night and got to thinking before giving up on it I wonder what other people have done. There is the guy I think in South America that has made this work. But I have plenty of kegs and a trimmed dip-tube is...

Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

Stainless steel shot glass possibly 1 oz size (shown here 2 oz). The rim of the shot glass becomes the pond stand-pipe drain spillway and the height establishes final liquid level. Must account for if it's slightly tilted in the bottom of the keg. If wanting final liquid level lower, drill holes...

Thanks for the reply - I just posted something entertaining this exact question Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

    Dip tube length

Looks like Kinder Eggs either were - or are not - permitted in the US due to concerns of children choking on the toys How satisfied are you with where you've cut holes for the final liquid level? Does the Kinder fit into the bottom dimple? What other items did you consider - anything in...

Cornelius keg dip tube final liquid level / sediment exclusion foot?

(Apologies in advance because this thread makes reference to something posted a couple of weeks ago … thought this was a compelling enough possibility to repost as the central topic) For those that ferment in Cornelius kegs and want to transfer from ferm to serv in a way that leaves behind the...

disparity between wine makers and beer makers

This thread reminds me of a post I've contemplated making for the past few weeks. Lots of interesting angles here. A grocery store we frequent is about the size of two city blocks, maybe two to three acres of covered shopping space. I was trying to guess the number of different wines they sell...

    Oh yeah ...

Off to the races almost immediately - lots of action. This will be only the second time to do this but running a slightly shortened dip in ferm and then having ferm purge serv and then doing the gravity switcharoo transfer to serv is a miracle to behold ...

    Oh yeah ...

I had ordered Nottingham and just threw that in because what the heck ... nothing doesn't ever come out great ... whatever's happening my ferms just come out better than I could ever buy ... I wonder why everything comes so good. I guess maybe I shouldn't look a gift horse :)

    Oh yeah ...

Thank you for the reply! ... yeah, my sweet spot is about 3.75 gals per keg. The old man can't carry too much weight nowadays! :) And I have my newly arrived but old dip installed giving me about 5/8ths clearance above the bottom. Hopefully this will working beautifully. So I'm going to clean...

Ferment and serve in corny - sediment options?

Greetings @Bassman2003 ... odd, doesn't seem to be a lot of material on corny-to-corny transfers Wondering how do you start gravity feed from ferm to serv? I'm thinking with ferm elevated well above serv make liquid-to-liquid connection, then bump ferm with C02 tank starting siphon, then...

Ferment and serve in corny - sediment options?

I understand this is a rhetorical question but i guess the practical answer is to just pop a top and do a cane auto-siphon and see what's left and then make a seat-of-the-pants cutting decision
