    Tell me about pH meters

Thanks sir... I read somewhere that the 4.01 solution can work as storage solution in a pinch until my bottle of it gets here? Not even a sample packet of storage solution was included with the meter.

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

Took a sample of the existing batch... 1.023; its only dropped ten points. Probably headed for the drain.

    Tell me about pH meters

Thanks guys. I just got an MW102 on sale from Buckeye Hydro, and have read through about half the other thread and Martin's website. Based on that I've also ordered bottles of 7 and 4 cal solution, and storage solution. Hopefully that will be enough to keep me going for a while. My tap water...

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

One of my first thoughts even for this batch was to not add the flavoring, get a few different flavor extracts, and flavor each glass to taste with an unflavored keg.. but gonna let she who is going to drink it make that call. If this yeast is so bad, I wonder why they settled on it, but good...

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

I can definitely try US05 if there is a next time. I agree on the hobby aspect, however, I don't drink these and not really looking for the hobby angle on this. The main goal here is to create a good approximation of the commercial product as easy and cheap as possible and save money. If...

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

I wonder if Everclear would work instead of vodka? Should be even cheaper.

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

You sir, are the man. My 1.75gal keg is begging for a test batch. That is going to be way easier and probably better than fermenting it yourself; I can see that already.

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

So I've read several threads on this, but they are mostly older and unfortunately mostly devoid of end results. (Maybe that should tell me something). They just trail off into oblivion with few "it turned out this way" conclusions at the end. As I'm sure the story goes often, my girlfriend...

Pale ales and IPAs at 12 degrees?

Not sure how it would work on SS but carboy heat wraps are cheap to buy and cheap to operate, and take up little space.

Overbuilding starter, dealing with CO2 ?

I don't know about yours but the lids on my mason jars aren't really gas tight even when "tight". Also once you refrigerate it further fermentation will stop. As long as you have some headspace and don't over torque the lid, risk should be minimal.

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

I have had several of the Sloops beers including Juice Bomb. Definitely in the top echelon of what is available around here. Waaaay more than $10/six pack though. I just kicked off early and went to the store and picked up a pack of HLT just to make sure I wasn't crazy, and to check and see...

First lager, with S-23... advice needed

Well it is what it is now... I pitched this morning, direct with one pack into 60 degree wort. I also pressurized with bottle gas up to 10psi (wasn't sure if this would be beneficial or not but figured it likely wouldn't hurt) Spunding valve set to 15psi is attached. It is currently free-rising...

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

I was appointed by the beer gods themselves.

    Tell me about pH meters

Time to stop guestimating my pH numbers. I see pH meters starting from $10 on Amazon. If those work, great, but I want something that is going to be accurate and reliable and last. What does everyone use that they believe meets these requirements? Thanks

I'd be interested if this is still open. If not, maybe next time.

Does bottle carbonating have the same temperature advantage as fermenting under pressure?

Unless someone really knows for sure, I'd just experiment with a couple bottles from this batch and let them get that hot and keep the rest more around room temp if you can. Then you'll know for next time. My guess is between the very small amount of fermentation that is occurring, and the...

Interesting observation with split batch with WB-06

The first one was at 1.007, one point higher than the calculators predict and about as dry as I get this recipe.

Interesting observation with split batch with WB-06

So the one with the dry pack looks absolutely done at 1.5 weeks... going to keg it today. (maybe there is a lesson there). The other is still bubbling away.

    Temperature control with blowoff tube?

Dual port lid is an option, however, after experimentation I've found that my internal beer temperature is controlled much more accurately by taping the probe to the outside of the BMB, under some insulation (I use a kitchen sponge). This way the probe is influenced by both the beer temp and...

Why did I wait so long to try an NEIPA?!

I've been meaning to do another batch as well; the problem is it hogs up my temp chamber for quite a while with all the cold crashing and whatnot... heh
