    Temperature control

62 ambient will be decent to good (at least) for the main active phase of fermentation for most ale yeast, but if you need any other temp you are still going to be lacking. I.e. if you wanted to do a lager lower, or ramp up an ale at the end to finish/d-rest as a lot of people like to do. My...

    Hopslam Clone...

Rather than start a new thread I figured I'd throw my experience in here. I was turned on to this recipe from a BeernBBQbyLarry video, and he indicated in there that this came from BYO magazine. Bells might have provided it; not sure. Mashed at 152 (overshot from intended 149 but it worked...

    Gas distributor manifold leaks

Thanks! will definitely keep that in mind. Yep my assembly looks just like that except with three drops instead of four. I leave the valves off as well for any QD that is not in active use. I'm honestly not even sure how they made this block, I guess it likely has to be a machined forging, but...

American IPA Base Pale Ale Recipe for Single hop Beers

I guess it's not the point, but I really just like this recipe in general, it is a nice drinking beer almost no matter what hop I've put in it so far. I'm about to keg Amarillo, and Simcoe is on deck. I did a slightly modified version of it around Thanksgiving, drank around Christmas: I did it...

    Gas distributor manifold leaks

Thanks... yeah I just learned there are different types of the tape when I was looking earlier. Right now I have the distributor and just a small bit of supply hose behind it pressurized, so not much gas volume overall. Set it to 15 psi and shut off the supply by turning the regulator all the...

    Gas distributor manifold leaks

What I've done now is take it back apart and put a healthy helping of keg lube on all the female threading in addition to teflon tape on the male threading, and that seems to have resulted in a massive improvement so far... will keep an eye on it.

    Gas distributor manifold leaks

I've always suspected I had a slow leak in my three way distributor, and am between brews right now, so figured now would be a good time to take it apart. I just replaced all the teflon tape on all 5 connections, pressurized it to 15 psi, submerged in a big bowl of water, and three out of the...

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

Ok... Didn't realize I was imagining those half foam beers with 10ft line, but good to know.

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

That is a little smaller ID than my line, but still, your beer must be different than mine...

    Hard Seltzer... current wisdom?

Given that 10' is basically the absolute minimum that might work for beer, my guess is that it would be totally insufficient for anything like a seltzer at higher pressure, but I still have not done one of these... thanks for the info.

    Corny Keg actual volume redux

I guess you could hook up a bunch in series if you wanted, and put a spunding valve on the last one if you wanted the whole system (i.e. your fermentation) to be under pressure, but I haven't done that. Also I only have one each liquid to liquid and gas to gas jumper hoses made up. My "on...

    fermentation temperatures solutions ?

The chest freezer works fine at any temp. The closer to ambient, the less it cycles.

    Mangrove Jack's M21 temperature

I got a packet of this at the LHBS kind of on a whim. Searching around, most threads on it seem to be about stuck fermentations (hopefully that isn't indicative of something). The temp range listed on the packet is pretty wide, mid 60's to upper 70's. So I'm wondering what temp gave people good...

Wheat beer recipe deconstruction (dark wheat/pH)

Ok, so final verdict (you're about to learn that I'm not a BJCP judge) with most of the keg drank at a get together last weekend; I still have a little left. Certainly drinkable. Just a little bland. Far better than my last batch of the regular recipe that was fermented at 68. In my opinion...

DMS boiloff - Rolling boil and lid tradeoff

To determine actual differences here, you're probably going to need lab grade analysis; that is my guess. I keep the boil relatively low, and the lid partly on, for two reasons. 1) A bigger boil isn't really getting the liquid any hotter, you are just using more fuel and losing volume to boil...

Wheat beer recipe deconstruction (dark wheat/pH)

Kegged today at 1.009, a couple points higher than in normally goes with white wheat in the same conditions, but probably no big deal. I added 2mL of lactic acid to the keg... it's chilling and force carbing now; we'll see how it's coming along in a week or so.

So you think it is most likely my calculator that is off?

American IPA Base Pale Ale Recipe for Single hop Beers

I'm going through the Azacca now. It is good! I liked Galaxy better though. Vic Secret is up next. My bag says 20.4% AA and with the normal hop load here I get 115 IBU calculated. Should I reduce somewhere? Even removing the 60 minute addition entirely I still have 93 IBU calculated. The...
