    Hydrometers.... what is actually good?

I ordered one of these a few minutes ago... we'll see how it goes.

    Hydrometers.... what is actually good?

Unfortunately, mine is broke though. I'm going to do some experimenting with temperature before chucking them.

    Hydrometers.... what is actually good?

So I recently joined the broken hydrometer club.:bravo: I guess it was just a matter of time. I've had the same one since I started brewing and always got numbers from it that were expected. It also happens to match my new Tilt perfectly so I think both of those are pretty good. I ordered a...

American IPA Base Pale Ale Recipe for Single hop Beers

After having a Sloop "Sabro Bomb" a while back and thinking it was awesome, I dropped the Sabro version in the fermenter yesterday. Coming out of the kettle, it had that same pronounced orange aroma remember from the Sloop, so I have high hopes.

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

It was working great, dropping exactly as I expected with generally pretty stable readings. It's in what is basically a light brut ale that should go to 1.000. This morning at 1.002 I threw an oz of dry hop in... that sent the gravity readings a little bonkers. First it went to .998 almost...

Blonde Ale Miller Lite (Really Triple Hopped)

Thanks.... I'm not a microbiologist or chemist, so some of those fine details go over my head. I did not add any extra enzyme to the mash. My numbers showed 80% extract efficiency. My understanding is that the gluco will convert all the non ferementable sugar to fermentable in the fermenter...

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

Yeah, we're probably talking something like that in terms of age... Looking closely after the reinstall and entering the email again, the "email" note is gone again, but the "comment" field where the email was entered is actually still there. So I'm hoping I'll just know that is where the...

Blonde Ale Miller Lite (Really Triple Hopped)

Ok I brewed this mostly according to the original recipe yesterday, just making slight tweaks to try to hit the numbers exactly with my system. I have gone through parts of this thread but not all. First, this is my lightest grain bill ever in a 5 gal batch. Efficiency went a bit higher than...

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

Ok I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and the gmail field was back. Looks like it is updating now on a new sheet. The tablet I'm using for this is positively ancient; I don't know if that matters.

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

It does bring up a similar menu but the email option has disappeared ever since I entered it the first time.

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

Hm. Mine doesn't look anything like that.

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

I looked but don't see that field anymore?

Question for Tilt Users: Switching beers

So I got a Tilt a couple weeks ago and did a water test. Everything seems good mostly, my spreadsheet was updating, etc. Missed a few intervals over 12 hours but no big deal. Today I dropped it into the fermenter for its first real beer, my tablet is getting readings every 5 seconds like...

    Mangrove Jack's M21 temperature

Thanks. Forgot I had this and need to do a split batch with it

Pilsner, fermentation under pressure, temp and pressure?

My first time doing this was with S-23. I pushed the pressure up to 15psi with bottle gas at pitch time and fermented at 68, and it looked done in well under a week and I was drinking it in under 3 weeks as I recall. I just did another batch, this time with 34/70 and let the pressure free...

New England IPA New England Style TIPA

Sounds good... all the rest of the stuff I need is on order. Looking forward to getting this one in the fermenter.

New England IPA New England Style TIPA

Another question, are you still waiting for complete fermentation, then doing a crash before the first dry hop?

New England IPA New England Style TIPA

Question about the white wheat here, is it white wheat malt, or something else? Thanks, looking forward to giving this a try.

    Temperature control

Ouch..... is that post fermentation? I bet that kills the yeast?

Aerate before or after pitching yeast?

Yeast are probably the single biggest mystery in brewing to me, so I can just go on my experience, which says: -Direct pitching a dry packet with no aeration will yield a good fermentation with complete expected attenuation 100% of the time -Liquid yeast does work much faster and often better...
