New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Thank you! It's nothing to do with whirlpool specifically, I'm just adding the lactic acid in WP to sterilize and so that the final product is lower in pH, as hops raise the pH. The hop combo was very interesting, surprisingly orangey and not as piney as I thought, especially using two hops...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

My Chinook IPA has been drinking nicely, the bitterness is present, but smooth and not overbearing. I think the whirlpool pH drop to 4.8 has had a really positive impact on depth of flavors and aroma though, I'll definitely be doing that again. Aroma: apricot, orange julius. Flavor: dank pine...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I just got more Talus so I'm planning to brew with it in the coming months, but until then I really dug this beer that was brewed with Talus, Nectaron and Simcoe. Darwin reviewed it: I personally didn't get any cedar from Talus after smelling it and brewing with it in past, but it's never...

Turning your Fermonster into a complete closed transfer system for cheap!

Looks pretty good! I had to buy a drill bit as well since mine were nowhere as big. This one worked well: IRWIN 1870963 7/16" Impact Hex Shank Drill Bit 42526914591 | eBay For your disconnects, I'd recommend the screw-on ones rather than the barb types. While barbs will definitely work, I...

Cosmic Punch (OYL-402) by Omega Yeast Labs

I feel like the beer that I made is holding up way better because it was made with Cosmic rather than LA3. Those underlying fruity esters seem hold up the beer way better after the hops fade about 2.5 months in. Having said that, I haven't done a side by side like you so maybe it's all in my...

Turning your Fermonster into a complete closed transfer system for cheap!

Has anyone had their O-ring come out when they open the lid? It was definitely lubricated. Not ideal when trying to quickly add dry hops... I might get a few extra rings online, it feels like mine is too large for the lid.

Quite possibly! How do the beers compare 2 months after kegging?

Cosmic Punch (OYL-402) by Omega Yeast Labs

How much did you mash hop? Omega recommend 0.5-2lbs/bbl I believe, which is 0.25-1oz/gal. I did a side by side with my homebrew club of LA3 and Cosmic in a blonde ale without much hops and the differences were profound. LA3 was your casual blonde that's slightly fruity and Cosmic had pretty...

Definitely thinner, Voss attenuates pretty damn well, often around 80%, but a 1.010 finish isn't something that everyone is after with NEIPA's. My buddy adds some maltodextrin to his Voss brews and the beers always come out well. It adds body without the sweetness.

I used to try to crash them for 24-48 hours, but there's still usually some haze floating around, so I figured that's a part of one of the strains.

    Bourbon County Stout clone attempt

Check out the link that I shared above, the second page gives you the exact surface area of 5 and 55 gallon barrels. You won't actually need as much oak as you think since the beer makes contact with all 4 sides of the stave, rather than 1 side. However, the problem with oak is that it's fresh...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've had some issues with A24 trying to decant the starter after a few days, so definitely avoid that. It seems that Conan usually settles out a bit faster. What I ended up doing in the end is getting a pouch and making a 4L starter, saving 0.5-1L in 3 jars and pitching the rest. My buddy got...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I'll have to give it a shot! I think White Wheat is generally very good for foam retention, so can't see any negatives here outside of the price. So I thought London Fog is the same as 1318, which generally starts off well, but doesn't always attenuate very well in 1.070+ gravity worts. 4L...

    Bourbon County Stout clone attempt

Hey gang, I finally got my clone ready and it turned out fantastic. I used a 5 gallon Reservoir barrel from BarrelsDirect that gave the beer some awesome bourbon flavors, aged 4.5ish months. OG: 1.120 FG: 1.034 IBU: 60 Aroma: Milk chocolate truffle, hint of bourbon pecan pie. Flavor: Milk...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I've gotten high quality hops from HopHeaven on eBay if anyone is interested in getting different Mosaic. He selects his hops and the ones that I've gotten are always solid. The selection isn't as great as YVH in terms of NZ hops, but he has most American varieties. Edit: agreed with...

New England IPA New England Style TIPA

Can you tell how your Idaho 7 will come out before trying the beer? I feel like I have a good grasp on smelling the pungency in the Citras and Mosaics, but I still struggle with Simcoe and Idaho 7. They both kind of smell just like generic hops to me...

I'm not ruling anything out, but a bit surprising that it'd happen in keg at 39F. I guess the hop burn aspect of it makes sense... W34/70 is hell of a yeast 😅

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I must have just gotten a really bad batch of Riwaka, just unlucky I guess. The NZ pils tasted great after all the hot side additions since I added the dry hop to keg. Kegged up before the DH was pretty decent, a little fruity citrus note in there, but after the DH it was all this weird...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

This sounds awesome! I've never made an 8% NEIPA, that would be a feat. I have to admit, I'm pretty weary of Riwaka after my NZ pils came out pretty undrinkable last year (100% Riwaka), but I had a Riwaka/Vic Secret IPA from Phase Three recently that was oustanding. I think I'm starting to be a...
