Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

Yeah, I don't get the 3V builds with big panels anymore. An all in one does everything they do. And the all in ones are economical, space efficient and don't take months to build. I also don't get having an entire room dedicated to a 3V. What does it do on the 354 days you don't brew ? Look...

Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

Yes, if you are going to do back to back brews, having 3 vessels allows you to be mashing the second while boiling the first. if you brewed in a kitchen or used an on demand hot water heater, you'd have access to as much clean up water as you wanted without using a vessel. A hot water heater...

Has anyone ever switched from 3 vessel to all-in-one?

I went from a 3 vessel garage based system to the all in one in my sig in the kitchen. I've never been happier brewing. Thing1 is designed for 6 gallon batches. It could have been designed for larger batches. I'm not aware of anything a 3 vessel system can do that Thing1 can't.

I'm with you on brewing in the kitchen and having the brewstand on wheels. Here is my take on the Grainfather. There is a link to the build thread in my sig.

Meet Thing 1. A 5Kw Induction All In One...

To lift 15 pounds of malt plus the liquid it absorbs, grab the bar on each side of the grain bucket and do a barbell curl. So much nicer than the handles I've seen on other all in one systems that have you lifting with one arm from the center, especially when trying to turn the mash tun 45...

    Feedback on Chocolate Cherry Stout

This is a fantastic porter, esp as far as having low dark malt acidity. I'd use it as a guide. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/threads/chinooklehead-porter.601441/#post-9041361 Please update this thread once you brew it as I would like to brew a similar beer.

Meet Thing 1. A 5Kw Induction All In One...

I did a 30 pound reiterative mashed beer last night. Mash #1: 15 pounds of Munich. Mash #2: 15 pounds of Vienna. The 8 gallon mash tun is very full with this much grain in it. But it works. This was my first reiterative mash. I'm a HUGE fan. I got 1.110 into the fermentor at nearly...

Best yeast for dark fruit flavors in high gravity Belgium style beer ?

Thank you ! I did not know this. Esters vs. Phenols in Beer | American Homebrewers Association I'll use that yeast in my next brew. Good to know.

Best yeast for dark fruit flavors in high gravity Belgium style beer ?

Thanks for the reply. So did the 61F starting temp on brew #2 give the fruity flavor ? I can't find Abbaye locally to brew this weekend. I can get M31 though.

Best yeast for dark fruit flavors in high gravity Belgium style beer ?

Here's something I don't understand. 2 guys brewed 2 different beers and used M31. Beer1 was "nice banana , clove, maybe some bubblegum" Beer2 was "Very complex. Malty with tons of plum, raisin and pear. Maybe a little clove". Doesn't even sound like the same yeast ! Beer1 OG 1.090...

Best way to keep hot break and hops out of the plate chiller and fermentor ?

My yeast are not showing any signs of stress. https://brulosophy.com/2020/05/11/kettle-trub-low-vs-high-in-a-german-pils-exbeeriment-results/

Best way to keep hot break and hops out of the plate chiller and fermentor ?

There is more benefit than being able to use a plate chiller. Look at all the organic material you keep out of the fermenter. The bag catches way more than just the hop material. At the end of the boil, I now circulate through the chiller and back into the bag for a while so that I strain...

Reiterated Mash - Unequal Grain Split

I haven't run those numbers. My mash tun only holds 15 pounds, so I can't split it unevenly anyway. Run the numbers and see where it goes.

Best way to keep hot break and hops out of the plate chiller and fermentor ?

Update: I've performed this procedure on my last ~8 brews and it works great. My plate chiller never plugs and my beers taste excellent.

Meet Thing 1. A 5Kw Induction All In One...

I had an overshoot of the mash bed temp if the temp sensor was in a different location than the wort return into the bed. This was due to the thermal mass of the bed between the wort return and the sensor. By the time the bed at the sensor got up to temp, the bed at the wort return was too...

Reiterated Mash - Unequal Grain Split

I need 8.5 gallons (into the fermentor) of the highest gravity wort I can get. My mash tun is a bit less than 8 gallons. The underlet volume is about 1 gallon. Total vessel volume is 11 gallons. I'm doing this in Thing1, see link in my sig. Let's guess that I'll use 24 pounds of malt...

Reiterated Mash - Unequal Grain Split

Efficiency isn't the only reason to do a reiterative mash. Mash tun sizing plays a part in it as well. The higher the gravity you try to brew, the lower the efficiency gets. So when you go bigger, the mash tun grows almost exponentially because you need more grain to go bigger and you also...

Meet Thing 1. A 5Kw Induction All In One...

Sorry, I seemed to have missed replying to your post. I've got the same issue with the PID I am now using. Thing is, when the temp gets low enough the PID increases the On duty cycle and it works OK. Because of the time lag when restarting this induction coil has a non linear output...
