Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

a piece of wood would probably shield the tank from burner heat, especially if the heat is all the way up and there is any breeze in the right(wrong?) direction. but the wood would possibly catch on fire, better than the tank heating up. i think i would engineer some kind of windscreen of two...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

is it just me, or are the instructions that come with these controllers vague and incorrect? i tried following the instructions to set the temp and it didn't seem to respond as it was supposed to. only when i started randomly punching the buttons did i finally get it set. i hope i can remember...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

I got my two controllers this week, very quick shipment! I don't understand how this relay is working. I think it is activated by power to either of the two relay connections #1 or #3. This energizes the relay and powers the fan. I take it that this relay will be energized by either input...

200 minimum buy is a bit much for this group. more importantly though, that model is 220v only. to use it in the USA, you'll need a 220v circuit available. i doubt you could get more than 20 people in on a group buy like that. they might have the 110v version and sell fewer units. more...

Malkore's (not so) Ancient Orange Mead

you've diverged so far from the AOM recipe that this post doesn't even belong in this thread. but it should be fermenting anyway. are you sure the airlock is in tight? has your SG changed any?

    Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker

fair enough. tangible experience is worth more than theory. documented results and measurements would be better, but the average person doesn't have the equipment or expertise to do that. a simple example would be to weigh the propane tank, bring exactly 5 gallons from exactly 70 degrees F to...

    Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker

yes but if they're both turned down to the same flow rate that won't matter. only when they are at their respective maximum burn rate would that matter, and with a higher flow, more heat is available and the burn time to boiling is less. total heat btus per volume of gas burned should still be...

    Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker

yes, the burners have different patterns, the yard will receive exactly the same amount of water from the sprinkler as the hose if the flow is the same. the only variable that would affect total heat is if some heat escapes to the side and doesn't transfer into the pot. newton's 2nd law of TD...

are you saying that the SQ14 is more efficient than the SP-1? or switching to electric for sparging made the difference? if the former, i don't understand how one burner can be more efficient than another when they're both turned down to the minimum flow required.

    Bayou Classic SP1 Jet Cooker

i've had one for a year or more. - it is noisy. - it is hard to start. it seems to be actuating the safety valve(which is either on the regulator or in the tank, i'm not sure). - my keggle didn't fit on it until i bent the circular rim and put some bolds on the keggle bottom rim. i the jet...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

i've left JOAM batches for that long or longer. I think spices are a personal thing. We've been putting way more than the recipe calls for. Judges have called it too much, but we like it so PPTTTHH to the judges! loose sediment is the main drawback of bread yeast. the slightest movement...

    Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

yes, you're in the wrong forum. if you don't like bread yeast, go with a more traditional recipe. go back to page one and read what joe said. if you really think you know what you're doing, or just like to experiment and risk wasting honey, please report back and let us know how it worked, but...

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

no, i meant a double throw switch that supplies the power to the fan from either the heating or the cooling output. the fan will run only when it's respective circuit is energized.

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

that will work if the entire system is DC, but aren't the heating and cooling outputs AC? the easiest way is to put separate fans on each circuit. or a switch to transfer the fans power line from one or the other. you won't typically be using both heat and cold at the same time anyway, right?

i've tried switching probes on digital oven thermometers and they weren't calibrated the same. so unless the specs match, it's a crapshoot.

if you're concerned about running a high power device, you can use the device to switch a 30 amp(or bigger) relay that switches the outlet.

    ebay aquarium temp controller build

i don't understand why the probe is inside a jug of water. it looks like you are deliberately handicapping a very sensitive temp controller. maybe you could just close it up inside an empty container. might be a bit more responsive to air temp fluctuations that way. or just hang it out in the...

Where do you folks put your beer?

that might have been me. i have 3 or 4 filing cabinet drawers that have beer in them. a standard filing cabinet drawer holds 4 six packs. as for your gf, find a beer she likes and make some. she says she doesn't like beer? start with a framboise and see where that leads.
