    Experiencing Beer

One of the main reasons why I got into this hobby was to experience better beer. I didn't know what that meant and I had almost no idea why I wanted to try different beers. My initial concept of beer was a light-golden drink that makes you pee and you get a buzz. The entire idea changed when I...

Anything You Wish You had Known

I wish I had known it takes a little while to clean up and to always have a friend to help. I generally make an estimate for the amount of time everything will take me and then add an hour onto that. Gives a rough estimate of how long your brew process with cleanup should take. At least it...

Why and when did you start brewing?

I was just looking for something new to do. I was bored and was tired of shelling out money on games and things. I had an idea that it would awesome to make beer. I started research at the start of October and had a kit and beer in the fermenter by the end of the month.

Oldest U.S. Beer Maker, Yuengling, Eyes Expansion

I stumbled upon a 6 pack of Yuengling in the local gas station. Lucky me :) Glad to know they're expanding and that they have a brewery in Tampa. Might have to visit sometime.

    Aw crud...infected batch?

I have the same looking little things in my first brew. I believe they are just yeast. I've been watching them over the past few days and they haven't grown into something that would look like a bacterial colony.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

I have to admit it was definitely Natural Light. I don't know what I was thinking, but drinking that stuff is just eck. I wanted to scream like Smeagol/Gollum. "Ahhh, IT BURNZ! IT BURNZ!"

Need feedback on my (basic) Extract Recipes.

I am still very much a beginner. I wanted to try and throw myself towards coming up with a few extract recipes. I just want to make sure these meet the style and sound good. I've been using Brewmasters Warehouse Brew Builder and Brewtarget 1.2.2 to fiddle with things. Please critique them...

Lesson learned about using spent grains for mulch

With the squirrels around the spent grains don't get a chance to compost. When the dog is out the squirrels don't get to eat the grains because she does. The cat doesn't care what so ever. Spent grains give me a reason to get back into gardening and composting. :)

    Hello from Orlando, Florida!

I have not had a chance to visit or order from Heart's. I've read some of the online reviews of the store and I don't know if I want too. I might try them out for ordering bulk grains when I get to All-Grain. Thanks for the heads up on MB and AHB shipping. :)

Question about indirect sunlight & beer/fermentation

I have my carboy sitting in a swamp cooler with 3 shirts over it (2 white, 1 red). It is probably overkill, but I am not going to worry about that. At the very least you could throw maybe another shirt over your carboy.

    Hello from Orlando, Florida!

Hello everyone! I got into the Home Brew hobby a few weeks ago. Through the help of this community and other communities I really found a desire to make my own beer. I lurked for a few weeks across the Internet to find a new hobby. I needed something to do and enjoy with my family. I decided on...

Allow my idiocy to save you the trouble

I use a small amount of Star-San in my cooler. Keeps everything clean and the flies that decide to drink from it don't live very long. ;)

    Gainesville, FL

Specifically (safely) I live in Lake County. Full of swamp water and retired folk. :) I brewed my first tonight. Lots of work (cleaning, sanitizing, brewing), but totally fun and the house smells wonderful. Everything sounds great this point until I can zero in what I like the best. Good Luck.

    Anyone else brewing today?

I am waiting for FedEx to deliver my equipment and my kit so I can get started. :D Cream Stout it will be. Edit: FedEx arrived! Time to get cleansed and Star-San everything. My first brew and I'm really excited.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm new to the hobby, but I've got my equipment coming tomorrow. I'm going to be brewing a Cream Stout (from Midwest Supplies) Sunday 8/24. Definitely excited. :)
