No bubbles 18 hours in... how long do I wait before adding another yeast?

So pitching at 100 degrees probably didn't kill my yeast, but if it might produce off flavors/fusels, should I just pitch an S05 packet and take the clean yeast flavor to take some risk off the table?

No bubbles 18 hours in... how long do I wait before adding another yeast?

Yeast nutrients- no Oxygenate- kind of... I opened the valve on my kettle and let gravity take over, splashing down about 4 feet into the bottom of my fermenter. Airtight- I think so. Its a stainless conical with a circular clamp on the lid.

No bubbles 18 hours in... how long do I wait before adding another yeast?

Brewed a milk stout yesterday, og of 1.085 (had a pound of lactose in it). Still no bubbles 18 hours into fermentation. My question is, how long do I wait before adding a fresh packet of S05? I used a ~2 month old mason jar of S04 yeast cake from a previous batch. It had about a measuring cup...

    Water Chemistry Questions

Recently got my water tested, results are below. Had a couple thoughts after the fact that I really should have thought of before sending my water sample in. 1. Does the Bru'n water spreadsheet account for using 10 gallons of water to make 5 gallons of beer? For ex. if my sodium level is 194...

    Always something...low morale

I started getting frustrated a while back when my batches just kept turning out "eh". The break that I took meant going and trying different craft beers to find a beer that would get me excited about cloning it. Next brew was a recipe that I bought ingredients for before my "break", turned out...

Is this water profile good enough?

Here's a more in depth report that they sent me. Are the 3 sources relatively close enough that I wouldn't need to test the water out of my faucet and just use their numbers (thinking that Iowa water is Iowa water and won't vary much by the time it gets to my house)? Or is there enough variance...

Is this water profile good enough?

Currently brewing all grain, double crushing, and don't brew very many recipes that use roasted malts. Currently just use tap water and add 1/4-1/2 a camden tablet before mashing.

Is this water profile good enough?

My second to last batch was an IPA and tasted great, best beer yet. (My neighbor even liked it and he is a bud light drinker. In hind sight, I think my lack of water chemistry kept the IBU's muted for him) Last batch was a double IPA and is very drinkable, but seems "ehhh". Not as bright as the...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Okay, this is too cool not to share, it made my day. So I bought this kegging setup (everything but the fridge) off craigslist. It came with an out of date CO2 tank. Airgas said it was going to cost me $192 for a deposit and refill on a 20 lb tank. I took this craigslist tank to them for an...

    Brewing Books- Traveling Library

Who has brewing books that they have bought, read, and probably wont read again? I want to learn about water chemistry, yeast, etc but would prefer to not spend the money on the books if I will read them once and not read them again. So that spurred the idea of a traveling library! Does anyone...

    Bev-Seal Ultra Line Length Poll

Ordered Bev-Seal Ultra lines for my new kegging setup. Not a whole lot that I could easily find about line length and resistance, and then what I found was a lot of people saying both 10 feet and 20 feet works for them. So in order to potentially save me 10' of line and a lot of headache from...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Just an update on the project with some pictures. Thanks too all that replied. Painted the fridge with chalkboard paint (not sure if I'm going to draw on it yet or just leave the slate black color). Still need a CO2 fill so I havent hooked any of my lines up yet, but it's ready for me to buy a...

Does anyone line their mash tun with a BIAB?

I mash in a bag. Used to BIAB, then kept the bag for mashing. My bag isn't sized for my 10 gal Igloo cooler so it frequently falls in or catches the spoon when I stir. I've been thinking of not using the bag just to save the step of washing all the grain out from the bag when I'm done. Like you...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

You guys are great! ...at convincing people to take the plunge into kegging. I am $460 into it and currently in the process of building it. I have a 6 tap drip tray, so that max's out my fridge space for kegs and forced my CO2 tank out of the fridge. Any recommendations on where to send the CO2...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Now that I have all the taps, posts, and kegs. What do I need to maintain them? O-rings, keg lube, a post socket, a perlick faucet tool, keg wrench?, anything else? Where would be the best place to buy everything?

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Decisions decisions.... A fridge would allow me to keep a yeast bank in the freezer but a keezer would most likely fit these six taps/kegs. At least I have all the hard parts of the setup sourced. Input on fridge vs keezer? (I'm a young buck/spring chicken so lifting 50 lb kegs wouldnt bother...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Thanks for all the replies and advice guys! Speak of the devil I did just found a sweet craigslist deal on a six perlick tap setup with a 20 lb tank, regulator, and manifold within my budget. Now just to find a fridge or chest freezer in the midst of all the coronavirus hoarding! Glad I just...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Thanks for all the responses! You've convinced me. I think I will piece it together, buying the taps and shanks at a later date. What all should I get? Keg connection has a single picnic tap pack for $63. A single keg would be fine for me for now, but do I want a dual regulator or Y thingy so I...

Financials of Kegging- Am I Missing Something??

Been wanting to get into kegging for some time, finally shopping around and scouring the internet and I am getting really turned off by the idea of kegging (don't get me wrong, I hate washing 50 bottles every batch I make) $100 used craigslist fridge (Lowe's only marks down scratch/dent fridges...
