Starting First BIAB With New eBIAB Setup

I've been wanting to brew a DFH 60min clone since I started brewing. After looking at all of the various recipes, it was apparent that Yooper's was pretty much the consensus clone recipe. I bought the ingredients a few weeks ago but finally made the time to brew last night. I was desperate to...

    Bag hoist/hanging...any pics?

Here's my setup. It works great, as long as you tie a secure knot around the neck of the bag. My knot came loose last night allowing the bag to drop back into the kettle, splashing wort all over the place. Luckily I didn't lose too much, but it was a drag to clean up. I use Wilserbrewer's...

    Woodbrew's Electric BIAB Build

Plan: There are two independent reasons to recirculate wort in the BIAB process, each requiring slightly different techniques. The first reason is to eliminate temperature stratification during the mash. This is done by returning the wort to the top of the vessel during the mash. Some...

    Rubber feet for control box?

Maybe rubber bumpers, like this. I'll need to measure the bolts that came with the box (for installing the wall-mount brackets). "Measure twice, order once" is my new motto.

    Rubber feet for control box?

Good point about clearance. I don't think its much of an issue with my box (see pic).

    Rubber feet for control box?

I have an Auber Instruments metal enclosure for my eBIAB setup. Although the box can be wall mounted, I prefer to use it on my countertop. I'd like to find some good quality rubber feet for the back of the box -- any idea where to buy them, and what size they would need to be? Thanks!

    My E-BIAB Setup

Wow, that looks eerily similar to my setup (see pic). I'm about to punch a hole in my lid for wort recirculation. My fitting is a standard bulkhead with female 1/2" threads. I'll put a male camlock on top (female camlocks on both ends of my hose) and maybe a hose barb and short length of...

    Cheap compact wort pump

I'm using a black US Solar pump connected directly to a ball valve on my BIAB kettle. With a male camlock on the output (see pic), is there a risk that the weight of the pump and fitting will put too much strain on the weldless kettle fitting? Thanks!

    My E-BIAB Setup

I noticed what looks like a camlock fitting on your lid; how are you recirculating the wort during the mash? Do you have a hose or some sort of spray nozzle on the inside of the lid? Thanks -- love the setup! Woodbrews

Forced Carbonation Using a Carbonation Stone

Great post. I share your experience with different methods of carbonation. My last batch, an APA, ended up perfect, but I think it was more a matter of luck than anything else. I have yet to settle on a reliable method of force carbonating. A couple of questions - how do you attach your...

Starting First BIAB With New eBIAB Setup

We have beer on tap! After siphoning using CO2 to my keg, I started force-carbonating at 30 psi. I kept it there for two days and then turned down the gas to my serving pressure of 12 psi. After reading the force carbonation thread, I learned that I need to “burp” the keg before...

Starting First BIAB With New eBIAB Setup

After fermenting for a week, I added the dry hops and then transferred using an auto-siphon to a second carboy so I could cold crash in my kegerator. The transfer sucked - steady stream of air bubbles in the auto-siphon. After that debacle, I researched ways to transfer without using an...

Whirl pooling low or high output

Thanks for the pics! I have the exact same dip tube setup, also sourced from BrewHardware, and I have the same bag and pulley from Wilserbrewer. I just hooked up my pump (a 12v Solar PV5) and ran sanitizer through the kettle to test the pump. The little pump works like a charm and I can...

110v Recirculating eBIAB 2.5 gallon batches

I have a 12v solar pump and a ball valve in front of it. Throttling with the valve limits the flow but also causes the pump to whine a bit. Does the Great Breweh pump whine when throttled? Any idea whether it will cause long-term damage? Thx. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

    brew day documentation

I've also been looking for a way to keep notes on brew days -- I've just been creating a Google doc so I can refer back to it as I make process improvements. Of course, there are multiple points in the process that require some sort of calculation (I do BIAB), such as yeast starters, water...

Partial DIY Fermentation Temp Control Using Cool Zone Cooling Jacket

I wasn't there to babysit it, so I don't know how low it went. It was in the low 50sF when I got home from work and all of the water bottles were thawed. My guess is that you'd need to change out the bottles every few hours to keep the temps low. If you feed it with cold water from a...

    growing hops in VA?

What made you decide to use containers for the first two years? Once they go into the ground, are you concerned about them becoming invasive? And thanks for the description of the trellis - that is one substantial structure!

Partial DIY Fermentation Temp Control Using Cool Zone Cooling Jacket

It's time to cold-crash my beer, so I'm trying a little experiment today -- I added fresh ice water and 6 frozen water bottles to the cooler this morning and then set the temp down to 3 C (~ 37F). I'm curious as to how far down it will go. Unfortunately I don't have an independent way to log...

Controlled fermentation temps. How are you doing it?

I use a Cool-Zone cooling jacket to circulate ice water around the carboy, plus heat tape for warming, all controlled by a DIY STC-1000 controller. Temps are monitored using a thermowell in the carboy. Works great with temps a few degrees above or below my basement ambient of 68; haven't tried...

    Eureka moment for temp control?

What type of pump do you use and how fast to do you run it? Have you noticed any problem with the pump losing prime because the wort does not flow through the bag quickly enough? Finally, do you recirculate through a fitting in your lid, through some other type of arrangement? Thanks!
