Dan's Tap House in Boonesboro, MD !

Quite true, SD. I think I'll have to pack SWMBO into the car one of these weekends and do just that. Don't worry, I'll give y'all plenty of warning. ;) Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers! :mug:

    Good morning from VA!

Greetings from Arlington, Vic! Welcome to the obsession. Glad to hear your first kit came out well. HBT here is a really great resource (as you'll see) and there are a lot of folks on here who are open, friendly, and more than willing to give their 2 cents on anything you have questions...

    Wlp028

Well, in order to give tasting notes, I have to crack one open right now before work. Oh darn... :ban: I only bottled this a little less than three weeks ago (12/15), so it's arguably still a little green. But before that it was in secondary for 8 weeks, 5 of which included aging it on...

So.. when does the world end in 2013?

April 1. And before you say, "oh that must be an April Fools thing," just wait and see. Note: please ignore the fact that the first is on a Monday. I am in no way trying to make a three-day weekend out of this in order to be able to brew... ;)

    1800 IPA: Pseudo-historic IPA recipe

Northern Brewer has a recipe which is a clone of Town Hall's 1800 English IPA http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/brewing/recipe-kits/pro-series/1800-historic-english-ipa-pro-series-all-grain-kit.html (this is the all-grain version, but NB has the extract version too) I've brewed the extract...

    Any good tv drinking games?

Easy. Watch CSI Miami, and drink every time David Caruso (i.e. Lt. Horatio Caine) finishes a sentence by turning and looking at the person he's actually speaking to. Guaranteed party right there. Once you notice it, you can't ignore it.

    What did Santa bring you?

+1. Awesome book. The nice thing about it is that he explains why these beers are the way they are, and the way he explains how _____% of 2nd round/finalist/Award winning brews employ the techniques and ingredients they do. A definite must-read in my opinion.

    What did Santa bring you?

You don't really want to drink it. Trust me. Send it over here to the east coast and I'll take care of it for ya. :-P

    What did Santa bring you?

Santa brought me a six-pack of Spaten and Hacker-Pschorr 1-liter mugs (ein maß). To beat that, he also dropped off a Frigidaire 4.4 cu.-ft. mini fridge (read: future lager-enabler)!!! Woohoo!! :D Might be really bold and go get myself a wort chiller too... Merry Christmas everyone!!

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I guess it's all about perspective; everything's local when you come from a state that's just shy of 4,000 times the size of DC. ;) Y'all do have some damn good BBQ, though... Cheers! [[]]D :mug:

Funny things you've overheard about beer

And just for the record, if it takes more than an hour on the highway to drive to, then for me it's not "local." Regional, maybe, in a "Mid-Atlantic States" kinda way. I'd consider Yuengling regional in the same way Dogfish Head is.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Thanks for this suggestion. Sounds pretty tasty and I'll definitely be checking it out. Easy enough drive. As for Raenon's "but I really get a kick out of the fact that OhReally chose, as an alternative to "local, craft" Yuengling, an imported macrobrew." What can I say? It's my old...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

I was in a McCormick and Schmick's a couple weeks ago, and on the beer menu they had a Domestic list, an Import list, and then in wee little lettering down at the bottom it says "Local Craft Brews Also Available". I live just across the river from DC, so I thought "Sweet! Maybe they've got...

2-part PM question for Oatmeal Stout

Hi all- I took the plunge into the world of mashing yesterday when I picked up a Brewer's Best Oatmeal Stout kit (partial mash with extract). I've got two questions: Part 1- In terms of grains, it comes with: 1 lb. flaked oats 12 oz. pale 2-row 10 oz. Victory 6 oz. Dark Chocolate...

    White house beer

I bottled my WH Ale on 11/11/12. I just cracked one open after letting it sit in the fridge for couple days, and I can't say I'm very pleased. And yes, I realize that at 3 weeks it can still be considered green, but it's got a bitter taste that my tongue can't reconcile. I think it might the...
