You're fine. Just make sure your LBK is clean and sanitized and no worries. I've made beer and cider in my LBK with no issues (other than mistakes that noobs like me make!) The cider LBK is just clear since cider isn't affected by UV radiation. Wort is.

If it was hard and crumbly I'd say it was copper corrosion but not snotty and greasy. Snotty and greasy stuff often accumulates in the drain but not the water supply! I'd call your water department right away and maybe ask your neighbors if they've had a similar problem!

Go to your local Walmart and ask at the bakery. They will have food grade buckets (with lids) in all sizes. I'd try and get one that used to hold frosting (nothing acidic that could etch the plastic or anything) and you're all set! I've gotten a couple myself for free for some other projects...
