Whats the next best piece of equipment?

Thanks for all the advice! I just brewed a 5gal full boil batch yesterday and cooling after the boil is the biggest pain right now. Takes me about 30min in a tub of ice. I think I'll do the chiller first and then try to find a fermentation chest freezer. I almost have a stir plate finished so...

Whats the next best piece of equipment?

I have a simple start up brew rig. Propane burner, 10 gal nice stainless brew pot, two glass car boys, bottling bucket etc.... What should I invest in next? I could use a temp gage on the brew pot or fermentation fridge but what would you do? I'm in savannah so it's always hot.

    Christmas Gifts

So how did she do it? Do you add it to any beer? Does it magically make a BMC taste good?

    Best Water to use?

Any one know where you can send a water sample to get tested? I live in Savannah and our water comes from the northern Florida aquifer but I can't seem to find any data online. The water company said they would email me twice in the past three months and I haven't heard from them yet.

    Spec grain mill ?

I also do a mini spathe on my specialty grains. Lol... My OG always seems higher then the recipe. Which I like, for what ever reason.

So I'm getting back into it..northernbrewer?

Northern Brewer is great...! Awesome customer support and brewing tv is fun to watch. All there kits are good and individual pricing is very competitive. There selection and freshness is one of the main reasons I use them. Stock turn over is really important, they have lots of turn over. Always...

siphon some off for the new year

I have a brown ale, caribou slobber, sitting in the secondary for the past two days after two weeks in primary my OG was 1.055 and it has been sitting at 1.021 for the past 7days. I was thinking I might siphon some off, like two 22oz. bottles and prime and cap them for a new year celebration. Is...

How is my Beer affected by Light

Just as the post states, I'm curious about how light affects my beer as it ferments in a clear glass car boy. Can anyone explain why we cover or put our fermenters in a dark place?

How do you do a full boil?

Doing my first full boil extract right now. Partial or full I haven't had any problems with boil over. I just add ingredients slowly and stir heavily. The stirring motion seems to keep everything running smoothly.

    First post, Help Please!

My first extract kit kicked off hot and basically died after 30 hrs but I learned that that's normal and you just need to sit tight. What was your OG...? I agree that you'll just have a lighter beer. Not the end of the world.

    1 week ferment, sour beer

I'm brewing an american brown ale for my very first batch. After a really active fermentation for first 36hrs everything slowed way down. Now it seems that fermentation has all but stopped, once or twice a day at best I hear a bubble out of the blow off tube (its in my office). So I decided to...

    Water question

I thought the same for my first brew but couldn't get the water cooled down in time so I just used tap water. As far as I know boiling only eliminates some of the chemicals that can cause off flavors I'm the final product. If you are doing an extract beer than you should be fine, so long as the...

    Honey Cream Ale recomendations

I want to brew a cream ale for my wife, since she supports my habit, and was thinking of adding some of Savannah's award winning honey to it. Can anyone give me some advice as to when I add it? I don't want the flavor to be overwhelming just slight notes.

    Oxiclean sanitation

I recently used a cooler full of oxiclean to submerge bottles in for label removal. I am wondering now how to clean them for bottling day. I rinsed them twice with tap water but do I need to do more besides starsan?

    Big start them big slow

I just did some reading and it sounds like dry yeast with little aeration shouldn't be a problem but what about high temps? The fermentation temp is at about 74 right now but the kit instructions are telling me that Danstar Windsor Ale Yeast has an optimum temp of 65-70. Is this going to have a...

    Big start them big slow

Can you re-aerate the beer at any point? Will this help the yeast or is it best not to mess. My og was1.055 so if I get stuck at 1.020 ill have a big brown with no bite... Doubbbttt.... I haven't checked the temp but my house stays around 68... I'll do this today.

    Big start them big slow

I brewed my first 5gal batch of extract two days ago. I didn't shake my wort for very long before pitching the yeast but my airlock started bubbling like crazy within 12hrs. I had to switch to a blow off rig at 18hrs. The bubbles were pouring out 2-3 per second. By 36hrs the bubbles have all but...
