Looks like AB InBev has sold Northern Brewer

Ordered from them for the first time last Saturday, still waiting for my order....... will not order again. Moving on to someone else. Summer traffic drove me to the web instead of driving 2 hours to my closest lhbs. Eric

    10 gal batch fermenters

I have never lifted the fermenter when full, so I can not speak to them. I drilled my chapman 2" above the bottom. It allows the beer to be run off using gravity and leaves the trub behind. Eric

I bought and am using the chapman. I bought the portless and drilled and valved it myself. Have been very happy with it. Eric

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

So I just got into this keg today, and I must say even being green, WOW! Big difference adding honey at flame out and fermenting at 65 to 68 degrees. The hops really came through this batch! Eric

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

When did you add the honey? The last batch I added at flame out, the previous 2 batches went in the fermenter prior to pitching. I kegged yesterday and am curious as to the difference if any. Eric

We are at the 2 week mark and my fg is 1.010 I still have a lot of air lock activity, but in light of the previous advice I will check again on Sunday, and if no change I am kegging. 7%+ not bad! Eric

    what to brew next?

Hi all! As summer is here and I have more time to brew I am looking for 5 gallon batch recipes of your house favorites you are willing to share. All grain of course, which is why I am posting here. My house pours are the " Edmund fitzgerald clone" and the " raging Irish red" What makes your...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

So I planned on kegging tomorrow but I am not sure. This batch has been going for 4 weeks in the fermenter. I went out tonight just as Rush " Red Barchetta " came on the radio. during that time I had 3 large burps and 4 small one bubble burps. Pulled a sample off the bottom and my reading...

bottle, can , or keg it?

I am fairly new. 1.5 years into my brew adventure. I kegged right from he beginning based on volume. Ask yourself " how much beer do I drink in a month ". I am good for 6 gallons a month if work does not piss me off. If work pisses me, volume goes up. I did not want a second full time job...

Where do folks enjoy buying 55lbs grain sacks when you have no LHBS?

There is a DC group buy thread Eric

    Dogfish and Sam Adams merger

I read that news story 5 minutes ago and threw up in my mouth a little bit. The fact that the CFO from SA will run the new entity, and Sam will serve on the board smells like Sam sold out. Not a merger. A sad day indeed. I was working at a jazz club in Rehoboth Beach when Sam and his buddy...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

I did not like so-4. I much preferred so-5. I am on my 4th batch, the last 3 with so-5 Eric

I'm sad - 2 LHBS in my area have closed.

Drive the local economy means support small business. Being in a small state going out of state would be no longer local. Eric

I'm sad - 2 LHBS in my area have closed.

Being a local business person my view is the same, but different. I try to drive the local economy even if it is that far away, rather than buy online. I enjoy talking to fellow brewers and meeting new people. Driving the distance that I do now I am meeting a lot of new people. The new lhbs...

I'm sad - 2 LHBS in my area have closed.

I have been buying enough for 2 batches per trip. I do 10 gallons at a clip. I am buried in truck expenses right now, blew my engine at 387,000 miles. lol As soon as that project is over I plan to buy a scale. Then I will buy by the sack and prolly order specialty grains on the interweb. Eric

I'm sad - 2 LHBS in my area have closed.

I am driving 2.5 hours 1 way to get my grains. When the lhbs closed this spring that was 15 minutes from my house. Eric

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

Brewed this one again yesterday. It is fast becoming the house beer. OG went 1.060 before adding the honey, 90 minute mash, batch sparge, 60 min boil. Eric
