HBT Android app vs iPhone app

Long story short, I've always been an Android fan, but most recently had an iPhone for the last 2 years (long story). Anyways, I picked up a new HTC Droid DNA yesterday, and was excited to see the HBT app in the market place. The iPhone app has been an essential part of my smart phone experience...

Recipe Critique: All-Grain Honey Nut Brown

Brew day went great. I hit my mash temp perfectly, and the final OG was 1.053. I'll report back in a a few weeks with how it turned out!

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

I know I just posted a picture on the last page of the LLH, but I couldn't resist posting just one more. I was thoroughly enjoying the LLH while brewing a Honey Nut Brown today. It was the perfect beer for this perfect weather. Thanks again Slim! I can't wait to brew it up again next week! I'm...

Recipe Critique: All-Grain Honey Nut Brown

Brewing this up today. Here are the modifications I made. Cut oats down to 0.5lbs Remove honey addition Add 1.5lbs of Muntons Extra Pale Malt Extract (I wasn't able to make it to the LHBS to get any crystal or additional 2row) I'll mash at 156F Here are the new stats: Original Gravity: 1.051...

    does lagering take longer?

Ha! I'm about to attempt my first lager this weekend and my LHBS owner told me it was 1 week per 10 points, so a 1.050 lager would take 5 weeks of lager time (or as long as you can wait is the other advice he told me ;) ). 241 - I'll listen to the above mentioned podcast now. Thanks for the link!

    Dos Equis?

I'll be brewing this up this weekend. Dos XX Amber has always been one of SWMBO's favorite beers. This will be my first lager so hopefully everything will go well. My LHBS didn't have the greatest selection of lager yeast the last time I went so I picked up a packet of Saflager w-34/70. I've...

    Competent Wort Chiller

I went the DIY method with my chiller and haven't had any leaks. I just used the proper sized tubing and tightened the hose clamps pretty tight. The garden hose connector is also a good distance away from the kettle with the ends angled down. In the event of a leak either from the hose clamps or...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

You can use instant grits. I'm not sure if it's a 1:1 conversion though. I know its been discussed recently (within the last 5 pages). Someone else might be able to chime in...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Took a SG reading today! Here are the stats: OG: 1.048 SG (Day 12): 1.014 Attenuation: 70.8% ABV: 4.46% It sounds like 70% attenuation is acceptable for US-05, so I'll recheck on Day 14, rack to secondary with gelatin, then keg... One question though, what CO2 volume are people kegging this...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Whenever I have new brewers over I try to keep it simple. Use equipment I've used successfully in the past and techniques I'm familiar with. I like their first time watching/helping to be as smooth and uneventful as possible. A good example was my buddy just got a new propane burner, and had...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

The only other thing you will want to do is to pasteurize the limeade once you've made it. I don't recall the exact procedure but essentially you heat it up to a certain temp (somewhere below boiling...) and hold for a given amount of time. This way you can add it to secondary without fear of...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'll be brewing up my first lager this weekend! Also on the agenda is kegging my first batch (cream of three crops) and if I'm feeling really motivated bottling my RyePA. I guess I'll also end up washing the yeast from my cream ale too...

    Favorite Container for Yeast Storage?

This is my favorite write up on freezing yeast: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/guide-making-frozen-yeast-bank-35891/ He uses the 15ml (4 dram) flat bottom vials. I've also thought about using these for yeast storage...

Recipe Critique: All-Grain Honey Nut Brown

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm really excited about making this! I went to the LHBS today and picked up some supplies. Unfortunately they didn't have WLP022 so I just went with WLP002. It sounds likes this is a fairly good option as it wont dry out the beer too much (like WLP005). As far as...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Thanks! I owe it all to you. I followed the recipe exactly. It wasn't perfect, but that was due to my own learning process. I went ahead and got the supplies to brew this again today. This will officially be the first beer I've ever brewed twice (it was that good)! I'm once again going to follow...

Recipe Critique: All-Grain Honey Nut Brown

Howdy Folks! I was hoping that some of you might look over my recipe for a Honey Nut Brown Ale. This is the first recipe I've designed and just wanted some feedback. It fits the BJCP style guidelines for a Northern English Brown Ale. I wanted something with some clear honey notes, but not...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Yesterday's brew day was all smooth sailing! Hit all my mash temps, OG was 1.048 (1.043 target), and have some nice airlock activity this morning! Today I'm racking my RyePA to secondary and going to try my first attempt at washing yeast!
