    Bad lot of Safale US-05

I pitched a lot of US-05 yesterday that had an expiration date of 5/2013.. it has yet to start fermenting. If it doesn't take off soon any advice? Should I pitch another packet of US-05 or a different yeast?

Slow start to fermention - first time with SAF-05. Advice?

Thank you I've been reading that thread as well. Although I think I screwed up, rehydrating at 100 degrees seems like a mistake. I think I will wait till tonight and if nothings happens, rehydrate another packet at a lower temp and pitch it

Slow start to fermention - first time with SAF-05. Advice?

Ya I was just reading about how it's generally better to pitch at around 60. I agree with what you're saying about hydrating at a lower temp as well - thanks for the quick advice! If it doesn't start within a day or two, just add another packet of rehyrated yeast? Is there any harm in doing...

Ya I do get my grain/hops from Ballast Point. I was hoping to skate by using the free software but I read up on Beersmith an I think I'll take your advice and go for it. Its actually not too expensive!

Slow start to fermention - first time with SAF-05. Advice?

I brewed my second all grain batch yesterday, a take-off of BM's Centennial Blonde recipe. Hit my OG dead on at 1.046. I poured the wort into a plastic fermention bucket at ~75 degrees, shook to aerate it, then poured the yeast in. I had hydrated the safale 05 yeast with one cup of 100degree...

    Hey all from San Diego!

I soak used bottles in bleach for awhile (1 week+) to get the labels off and then clean, rinse, and dry them. Then soak them in iodophor to sanitize them before bottling. It has worked well so far!

No ball valve on it yet! I'll save that for a stainless pot someday I think. I brewed a partial extract pale ale first and was somewhat happy with it but I knew I really wanted to get into all grain. I have ,y first all grain batch, an IPA, fermenting now and am about to do a blonde ale. I use...

Cranberry Cider - Based on Ed's Apfelwein

Sounds like the recipe I'm looking for BrewFrick! Is this for a ~5gallon batch? I don't think you mentioned what size better bottle you were using. Would love to try this just making sure I have all amounts correct. Thanks!

New here with some pics to add

I have yet to figure out how to qoute stuff.. But I noticed you said you work for a BioTech firm - so do I! I live in SD and work for a BioTech company called Brooks Life Sciences (formerly Nexus Biosystems). Its great how knowledge of biotech lends itself to brewing isnt it? Cheers, SteveBrewSD

Hello all, I'm a Mech. Engineering Student in San Diego, CA and have recently gotten into brewing. I love beer as well as the feeling of crafting something myself so I think this hobby is perfect for me. I did one partial extract brew to start and now have dived into All Grain brewing. I...

English Porter Black Pearl Porter (AG)

My first post on hombrewtalk! I have been reading a lot of your recipes as well as EdWort's, they must do something right in Texas. I did just one extract brew before switching to AG because it is just so much more interesting. I have a an IPA modeled aftered EdWort's in the primary and am about...
