American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Minkforce - my wife is a hophead as well and drank most of mine. Glad it turned out well for you. Be sure to share some pics when you have time. Did you bottle or keg?

    Yeast Cake Looks Like...Brains?!

The off taste/smell is kind of hard to describe, but it almost tastes a little soapy in the finish. Primary was between 68-70 (no attempt this time at temp control). You're right about too many beers and not enough time - and this brew (the first time around), was one of the better ones. I...

    Yeast Cake Looks Like...Brains?!

Just brewed my second all grain version of Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter with a hydrated pack of Nottingham. The feementation was very active (lots of blowoff through the blowoff tube and some leaking of beer under the sealed bucket lid). When I popped the top I noticed a bit off an off smell...

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

JJW - I did not get a grassy or metallic taste to the beer, I got lots of malt flavor with plenty of hops (and a pine aroma) coming through. Not sure where that metallic flavor is coming from, but I have heard that extended dry hopping can produce grassy flavors. That being said, I've dry...

My Plan to Hit OG Every Time

I am getting ready to do my first BIAB (Bell's Two Hearted Clone) and this reasoning sounds pretty good to me!

    Kegging time

Yes - I didn't write the order right. I purge oxygen first (blast it with CO2), then give it a shake and reconnect the CO2 to force carb.

St. Patty's day brew - Suggestions?

It's not too late, just don't do anything requiring a secondary/dry hopping. For St. Patty's day I would recommend Deception Cream Stout (just kegged and am drinking this), or one of my personal favorites, Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter (which I will be drinking in March).

    Kegging time

I do exactly what titansvol does. If there are a lot of hop particles, I will cold crash overnight so the particles drop out. If I'm worried about clearing the beer up, I'll use gelatin after racking and prior to hooking up CO2. As soon as I put the gelatin in, I seal the keg, shake it up a...

Cochised - are you in Dublin? What a great place to brew a beer, glad you've ordered your equipment!

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

I tasted my first few glasses out of the keg - and this tastes really good. I can see how this will age well. I decided to do two separate 1 gallon secondaries. 1 gallon racked onto a vanilla bean and the other racked onto 2oz. toasted coconut. Looking forward to trying those!

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Just kegged this one after 3 weeks in primary. FG came out at 1.018. I put 3 gallons in the keg as brewed, and racked 1 gallon to secondary over vanilla bean, and 1 gallon over 2oz. toasted coconut. The hydro sample tasted great!

American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

I love this recipe. Any thoughts on what adding honey would do to the taste?

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

I know - it's tough, but I think it will be worth the wait! I am currently waiting on a cream stout!

Minkforce, Ronarse - how are your brews coming along? Ronarse - based on your bottling date your getting close to cracking one?

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

I kegged, but I plugged it into Beersmith and show 4.32oz corn sugar for 4 gallons, or 3.93oz table sugar. This is based on 2.3 volumes and should work for this beer.

What I did for beer today

Pliny the Elder clone (even though I've never had the original). Did my first mead a couple days ago!

    Effects of too much malto-dextrine

Ok - so no more ABV (because it's unfermentable), and no more sweetness as well? Just a little 'thicker' tasting IPA?
