    Wild Yeast harvest from bees

Definitely a clever idea... curious to see how it goes for you

    Fermenter locations

I modified a mini fridge as a ferm chamber and it works fantastic, but you may not want to go that route yet it sound like. What about hanging a curtain from the bar? If the overhang is large enough, you won't see all the carboys/blowoff etc

What happened to The Great HBT Stogie Thread

Haven't had Lot 23 yet, but the Perdomo 10th Anniversary is a favorite of mine with a fire and cabernet

Gardening: My Tomatoe and Pepper Progress

Exactly what I was asking, thanks! My wife and I just bought an old house that has a huge yard with part of the plot already tilled for a garden. The catch is that almost all of the plot is in direct sun for most of the day, hence my question. I guess "shade cloth" is the right term. Can any of...

What sort of light diffusers are you guys using? Thought I noticed that in Evilgrin's photos.

You know what really grinds my gears?!!

I work at an arch/engineering firm and one of our Cali projects was burnt down by arson during construction. But now we're really getting out into the weeds! Can I be so bold to summarize a moral to this thread? "Be excellent to each other" - Ted

    Cure for overcarbed keg?

You could bring it into the tub with you and take "Shower Beer" to a whole new level!

You know what really grinds my gears?!!

Yep, definitely don't need to move to Oregon... I hear Colorado has good beer. Seattle is nice? California??? I was born and raised in Portland, and I gotta say that it has changed rapidly in the last few years especially. The attitude of the people isn't what it used to be. Obviously I'd love...

    bitter ink after taste

Nothing like diagnosing scents and flavors over the internet... zmxncbv - I hope you have a club or local judge/pro who can help! Never hurts to keep at least a few bottles to see how it progresses for future reference.

    bitter ink after taste

Sounds kind of like fusel alcohol to me... If your room temp was 20c the fermentation could be several degrees hotter and that may be what caused the flavors you're experiencing. Aging out is possible for bigger beers, but you might lose the hop character of your pale ale before the fusels...

Try out this yeast or chuck it?

It's a brett/lacto blend. Yes, making a starter or small beer with it first will be different than pitching directly into 5 gallons, but so does leaving the vial in open storage for six months! Might as well see if there is anything fun and alive in there if your other consideration is tossing...

Try out this yeast or chuck it?

Definitely keep it! If you're nervous about the first use, make a 1 gal small beer (1.030-1.040) first and let the bugs play a bit. You'll end up with more in the end and a good idea of what to expect from the fermentation. Just make sure to sanitize everything really well. You're aiming to...

    1 gallon kegging options

GrowlerWerks just started offering a ball lock top for the uKeg. While this does seem like a perfect answer to what you want to do, you're talking about $229 for the 1gal + $40 for the new cap for ONE "keg" that's hard to clean and hard to fix when something goes wrong. I love my ukeg as a...

Gardening: My Tomatoe and Pepper Progress

My wife and I are closing on our first house soon that sits on a 1/3acre. We're both pretty excited to get a garden growing in the back, and all of this has been a fun read and only adds fuel to that fire! Hope to have a few pics of my own to share next year!

    Gorilla Glue for Keezer Collar

Gorilla Glue needs to be clamped pretty tight as it foams up. It will make a mess, so make sure to tape off around the collar for ease of cleanup. I'd recommend using a decent grade outdoor caulk like Quad or Quad Max (available in most big box hardware stores). It'll be easier to apply, easier...

    Saison first recipe critique needed

Curious how the Munich Dark will add to it. Let us know how it turns out! Is the Omega yeast a Diastaticus strain like French Saison? I'm not familiar with it

A thought experiment to test the general validity of available mash pH software

Exciting stuff, gentlemen! I admit that I am really only able to grasp the general concept of what is going on here, but I am eager to see where this all leads. A new tool is in reach that will bring more accurate prediction to what has always been empirical and "gut check". I would hope that...

Am I the only one that uses epsom salt (MgSO4) in my water profile?

Do we know of any especially beneficial levels of magnesium? Is there a rough ballpark threshold of mins and maximums that we can put down here?
