Spike Conical- observations and best practices

One word of caution. I used a submersible pump for my keg cleaner and it began leaking oil. I am pretty sure your superior pump is not oil-free. I am currently looking for an oil-free submersible pump to use for my keg cleaner.

    How consistent is US05 attenuation?

schematix: I am not sure where you came up with this concept. Beta amylase denatures faster at 152 F than it does at 142 F but it is not "gone" at 150 F. Even at 160 F, beta amylase will take time to denature. Chemical reactions driven by enzymes will increase in rate as the temperature...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

I have a 20 gallon kettle and use a 1.5" triclamp condenser system. Works great.

Cleaning a plate chiller with a pressure washer.

Maybe remove all the attachments to the plate chiller and bake it in the oven at 400F for an hour. Then flush/backflush with hot water. Alternatively, you could soak it in a bucket of hot PBW overnight.

    SS Brewtech Keg Cleaner

mcgimpkins: The pump on your keg cleaner looks like a pond pump. Can you tell me the specs on the pump (gph and lift height) or the model number and manufacturer? Thanks! steve

London ESB 1968 - used in IPAs

What couchsending says! If I use this yeast, I mash in the 148-150F range. I ferment at 62-64F for 72-96 hours and then let the temp rise to 68-70F.

    Pump for keg cleaner

Well I have been using a standard sump pump for my keg cleaner and I now have experienced the dreaded oil leak resulting from leaky seals. In researching pumps, I think the best options would be an "oil-free" sump pump: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HOT3YI/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 or a...

Sensor question and using my boil kettle for BIAB.

Sorry, but there is no way that the sugar in your wort raised the boiling temp by 10 degrees. Look for another explanation. https://lecturedemos.chem.umass.edu/solutions13_2.html https://socratic.org/questions/what-is-the-boiling-point-of-sugar-solution-at-atmospheric-pressure-how-do-we-ca

Ss BrewTech Chronical + Pump Cart = Ultimate CIP

Sorry about that Ubermick. My CIP system looked nearly identical to yours except my conical was 40+ gallons and my march pump & hoses were heftier. Mine never spilled a drop of PBW solution. I am not sure how to explain your experience.

Low attenuation/high FG on all brews

I apologize if I missed it, but what was your mash temp?

Sensor question and using my boil kettle for BIAB.

Boiling point elevation effect of solute is not that dramatic. I would double check the calibration of your RTD sensor.

    kegco stainless cfc chiller

Has anyone found compression X 1/2" npt fittings that definitely work for this chiller. I have done a search and found several people state they ordered 15 mm X 1/2" npt compression fittings. No one has clearly stated whether they worked or not. Anyone?

Hofbrau Dunkel - Share Your AG Recipe!

Personally, I would limit the Munich to 30% and make up the difference with pilsener malt. Carafa I or II for color & aroma.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

I bought the spray ball for my CF10 because I was used to using CIP in my previous conical (40 gal Stout). It is so easy to clean the CF10 by hand that I no longer CIP. I do use the spray ball to sanitize the CF10.

    Supplying Power for e-brewery

If you are brewing 5 or 10 gallon batches, you need a 30 amp, double pole GFCI breaker added to your control panel. You will then need 10 gauge wire run to a 30 amp, 240 vac 4 prong outlet. If you are going to brew bigger batches or think you will upgrade to bigger batches in the future, then...

    Is Extra Sensor Worth It/Needed?

Why do you need a temp sensor on the outlet valve of your BK? The only reason I can think of is that some PIDs require a sensor to work. You will adjust the power to your BK based on the strength of the boil you desire - you will boil at near 212F depending on your elevation. You need a temp...
