    Choosing a brewing pump

I have a Chugger and a "little tan pump" on my system. They have both served their purpose well. However, I would like to sway out my Chugger for a TD5 - the ability to mount it directly to the kettle is a feature I really like about the tan pump.

    Fermentation heater

I can give you my experience, as my fermentation chamber is also a chest freezer in a detached garage. I only run the heat when I am out there (and I am in Minneapolis, so yeah, cold). I tried the ceramic heater route, but did not have the best success. What I have now had for the last few...

What are you using for an enclosure and monitor for your automated system

I am converting to electric, and happened to get a 12x12x6 enclosure for $15, thinking it would be no problem. But I have 3 contactors, a 24v power source, 5v power source, 12v power source, 2 SSRs, etc - and it is TIGHT! I was also thinking of going the panel mounted touch screen, because touch...

I have one on my little tan pump, so far no problems. Just be aware that it is not full bore.

Club Group BA Stout Project - got any advice?

Our club has a pretty good sized barrel program. One of the smart steps is to have a small committee that is in charge, and has the authority to pass/reject the beer going into the barrel. TallDan's recommendations are all good, especially around recipe and timing. Especially giving everyone...

    Propane burner suggestions

I currently use an SQ14, and brew with others who use the KAB4 and Blichmann and Edemetall - because the Blichmann and Anvil have the optional legs, I would recommend them. The time savings is pretty solid in the extra power, and the ability to adjust height is a really nice feature.

    Looking for economy pump input

Cam lock, was cheaper for all of the connections I wanted. Otherwise I wouldn't imagine there is much of a strength difference between the styles. As Auggie stated, any of them will provide plenty of flow, but I would make sure they are at least the 24v models. I have a couple of the 12v...

    Chugger Pump Shield?

borderline embarrassed to admit it, but I use an old PBW container cut to slide over the pump housing. I drilled holes in the back (bottom of the container) for ventilation.

    Looking for economy pump input

I like the Topsflo pumps, close to Chugger performance, and with quick disconnects you can connect it directly to the kettle - eliminating a stretch of tubing.

2 vessels or less - what are my options?

RIMS tube, that way it's easy for the single vessel

2 vessels or less - what are my options?

The good thing - going 1 or 2 vessel is a great solution. 2 vessel is an MLT and BK. But you have two vessels to store. 1 vessel is a bag, BK, hoist of some sort. But storage should take up less space. If you no-sparge, time is pretty equal between the systems. And you could set up a RIMS on...

Why Take so Long to Ferment your Beer?

    1) Brulosophy is a single, in-repeated data point, not a fact 2) Brewing is a fun hobby, not my job. My career takes priority since it allows me to brew. So if I have to travel for work, my beer may be in a fermentor longer. 3) I enjoy that people do things differently, that is one of the main...

    Will you miss the bottle?

most of the breweries I like here can, and it’s way easier to travel with cans. Then you can crush them, and it’s less volume of waste to remove (especially fishing and cook-outs).
