Direct-keg-taps: Nukatap MINI, Nukatap Flow Control, PicnicTap2.1, and PicnicTap OG

recently i heard that apparently someone (kegland?) now makes the picnic tap with a non-barbed solid stem so that it will fit into push to connect fittings. didnt occur to me to use it in that way, but why not? so if i had to guess i'd say you could skip the tubing and just push the PTC...

Direct-keg-taps: Nukatap MINI, Nukatap Flow Control, PicnicTap2.1, and PicnicTap OG

LONG STORY SHORT Nukatap MINI - would definitely use MINI as a direct-tap fitting. If i can get myself to get used to the slow pours, i would definitely get another for keezer use. I dont travel with kegs, but if i did this would be a solid choice. Nukatap FC- no-go for direct-tap of kegs...

Direct-keg-taps: Nukatap MINI, Nukatap Flow Control, PicnicTap2.1, and PicnicTap OG

Picnic Tap 2.1 Ok, so this one is a bit of a long story. For now, i’ll just show you the results it produced. Not a bad pour in terms of foam control. However, it also poured pretty damn slow. Not as slow as the Nukatap FC, but probably about the same as the MINI. So in terms of the...

Direct-keg-taps: Nukatap MINI, Nukatap Flow Control, PicnicTap2.1, and PicnicTap OG

First up- Nukatap MINI with FC QD from kegland As noted, unit feels nice and solid. The QD can spin a bit on the keg post, so there’s a bit of maneuverability if you need it. I poured a few test pints to try and dial in the FC restriction level and it has a very wide range, from tiny...

Direct-keg-taps: Nukatap MINI, Nukatap Flow Control, PicnicTap2.1, and PicnicTap OG

After complaints i voiced about some of the other options for direct-from-keg beer pours around this old forum, the folks at kegland offered to ship out a new Nukatap MINI so it could be used and reviewed. So here we go. Since the Nukatap MINI hasnt been released in US yet, here’s just some...

Mixing cold side finings with Trifecta?

thought it was pretty clear here that we're talking about cold side. not hot side. has nothing to do with whirlfloc. biofine clear aka colloidal silicic acid

Picnic Tap 2.1 vs. Nukatap Mini

well now knowing where to source those things everyone can just build their own rigs. all you need is a piece of tubing with enough ID to fit some of the spiral. QD to duotight, then tubing with spiral, then whatever you can get to fit on the end, hopefully a simple picnic tap. or worst...

Mixing cold side finings with Trifecta?

Hoping @mabrungard or someone else with chemistry chops can chime in here- Is there a problem with combining my finings (biofine clear) with any preservatives like SMB/PMB or ascorbic or even brewtan/gallotanans? My plan is to put them together in a small purged container and shoot them into...

Picnic Tap 2.1 vs. Nukatap Mini

yes, picnic tap2.0 most definitely has QC issues.

    American hop combos

If you wanna brew like it’s 1993 you can probably just look up old recipe books and go through them to list the hops. You won’t find them all, as growers abandon them when they fall out of popularity, but it’ll give you a good list. After that you can always search online for them and see...

Fermenting in Keg - finings useful or not?

Yea That was my usual process, always had similar results. Like I said I’ll probably revert back to it on hoppy stuff, although I might put the hops in the serving keg. Gonna save the non hoppy stuff for the “one keg” ferments.

Fermenting in Keg - finings useful or not?

Yeah, I had high hopes but bit discouraged so far. I’ll try again, maybe I biffed something without realizing it. But I’ll be smart about it this time and start with “easy” beers. I have a few easy beers that would probably work well, no dry hops, malt forward, etc. but at least with...

Fermenting in Keg - finings useful or not?

got it. ok, good to know there's no issue with their effectiveness in the "one keg" scenario. i realize its a bit early as i've only done one full ferment-in-corny beer but the results are subpar. i'm not entirely sure the issue, but i initially wondered if flavors are muted since i...

Fermenting in Keg - finings useful or not?

so no issues with extra large finings clouds on bottom? They seemed to work normally? did you spund by any chance? If so when did you add finings?

NOBODY SAID ANYTHING ABOUT YEAST CAKES.

Fermenting in Keg - finings useful or not?

just trying out fermenting in keg. wondering if there's a use for finings? typically i use clearzyme and/ or biofine, then rack off normally and keg. but wondering if that's even worth the trouble given that its all gonna sit in the bottom of the keg. will get stirred a bit when i...

    ABV Aromazyme

i can send you some to try out if you'd like. its a nice add to a brew in most cases, a few cases i didnt notice much difference. but i dont do hazies, so just talking ipas and lagers mostly. problem with lagers is that its lower temp bound is like 60F, so you gotta warm them up a bit and...

    Done with liquid yeast

once omega or whoever throws the thiolizing yeasts into a dry pack I’ll gladly go dry. not an option currently. And Baja has been not great replacement for 940, three day lag even after hydration and nutrients. So I’d be happy to go dry, but not an option yet.

Range Anxiety- wireless hydrometer relays-- tilt or Nautilus (ispindle)?

interesting. if i understand correctly, tilt's mobile app uses the bluetooth signal. so if i made the "tilt repeater" then i'd be able to just use the tilt mobile app? as opposed to going tilt- tiltbridge- wifi endpoint (google sheet, brewer friend, etc) obviously depending on how...

Range Anxiety- wireless hydrometer relays-- tilt or Nautilus (ispindle)?

long story short, i've managed to find myself with a tilt, pill, and ispindle. unfortunately nothing really works as i will ferment in either a conical or corny, which is inside a fridge. so basically, these things are pretty much useless with spending more money to create a...
