    Suggestions on this recipe please

I entered my recipe in a couple different calculators and they both list the IBUs at 31 so, I probably won't be using the tastybrew calculator anymore. I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out! Thanks for all the help!

Racking to secondary before primary is finished?

First off, I did a search and found some answers but I'm looking for a little more confirmation... So, here's the story. Wednesday I brewed an IPA and pitched a starter I made from Wyeast 1056. Today, I was hoping to brew an American Amber and reuse my yeast cake but, the fermentation is...

    Suggestions on this recipe please

You haven't complicated it, I asked for opinions and suggestions and that's what I got! I'm still learning the hops and grains and what needs to be mashed and what doesn't... There's a lot to take in! Any way, I messed with the hop schedule again taking your advice into consideration and I now...

    Suggestions on this recipe please

I appreciate all the suggestions! I went to the lhbs today and picked up the ingredients for this brew. I accidentally got Vienna instead of Victory so I guess I'm using that... So here's what I have: OG 1.057 FG 1.014 IBU 38 SRM 11 ABV 5.5 Fermentables 6lbs Light DME .5lbs Crystal 40L...

    Suggestions on this recipe please

Yeah I calculated it with a 2.5gal boil. Like you said I'm not too worried about it, I'll probably just run with it. I just would like to know if the stats are accurate or not. Either way, I'm sure it'll be delicious.

    Suggestions on this recipe please

Yeah I might have to try a partial mash when I get another kettle as I start to upgrade my equipment for all grain. Looks like fun. I made this recipe using tastybrew.com and it came out with 34 IBUs. So I'm kind of confused why it would be the same IBUs that you calculated. With less sugars...

    Suggestions on this recipe please

That's a good point about the Amber extract and the Crystal malt. So I'll change that to Light extract. I had thought of using Munich but it needs to be mashed to get sugars from it, right? Will I still be able to get flavor but can't calculate it into my OG? The hops I played with quite a bit...

    Suggestions on this recipe please

Please take a look at this recipe and offer any feed back that you feel would improve it at all as I'm new to writing recipes and am open to any suggestions. It's pretty straight forward but any advise is greatly appreciated. Style: American Amber Ale Type: Extract Boil size: 2.5g Batch...

    It's been awhile

Well I've swirled it several times and the ambient temp is 70 degrees... I'm pretty certain it's dead at this point... It's been almost 24 hours. If I have time I'm going to stop at the lhbs store tomorrow and grab some yeast... thanks for the suggestions but I'm pretty sure it's a lost...

    It's been awhile

Not totally sure so I haven't tossed it yet.. The smack pack was several months expired though, as I bought it awhile ago with intentions of getting back into the brewing game. At this point there is still no activity so we'll see, I guess. Oh well, I'll just make sure to have a back up from...

    It's been awhile

Hey, my name is Chris and I live in South Dakota. I'm not completely new to homebrewing or the forums, I just haven't been around in a couple years. I've only got a handful of batches under my belt, though. I'm getting back into brewing after about three years off. Was gonna brew an IPA this...

    Lookie what I got!!

Yeah my SWMBO isn't wild about the graphics either. If they really are airbrushed I'm gonna leave 'em otherwise I'll probably take 'em off and put some beer stickers or something on it. I mean c'mon, it's a kegerator, not a place for a dungeon masters guide.:D

Yeah I'm pretty pumped up!! I can't wait to get the home brew flowin'. I need to try to sleep now. Stupid night shift. :(

    Lookie what I got!!

Scored this beaut on ebay this afternoon. Not sure about the graphics, but then again, I'm not too worried about it at this point. I never get lucky enough to find this kind of stuff. Hey that rhymes.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120174813213

Yeah I guess that's an option too. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'm gonna get the ingredients ordered and see how this thing turns out.

    First recipe, please critique

I guess I'm not too worried about not getting sugars from it because I'm doing an extract. If the Munich has a caramel flavor, do you think that will be too much with the Crystal? I've decided to go with a lower AA hop than the centennial. What to you guys think would be a good fit? I was...

    First recipe, please critique

So I switched the LME for DME and that seems to work out better anyway as it gets my OG up. The ABV was just under the low side for the style. The reason I had the dextrin in there was to help with head retention, but after a little research, I found that it probably won't do much for me in an...

    First recipe, please critique

Well since this is my first recipe, I thought I'd call on the help of you fine folks. Basically, I went on the BJCP website and picked grains and hops that I thought fit the style. Because, I've never made my own recipe before I'm open to any and all opinions and ideas. The only thing I for...

    New brewer from Iowa

Yeah dirty John's has an amazing selection. I was in beer heaven the first time I walked in there and I live four blocks away so that's pretty sweet. Is there a homebrew supply store in Cedar Rapids?

    New brewer from Iowa

Hey, I'm in Iowa City as well. Just moved here a few months ago and haven't had the chance to brew yet. I'm looking to get one going in the next couple weeks, though. Might have to get together and swap a few brews....
