    Fixes for really low efficiency?

I've found the crush is the biggest factor in efficancy for me. If that hasn't changed from your last brews, it might be the condition of the grain. Maybe it's aged a bit or wasn't kept in great conditions.

92% mash efficiency. Is it possible

From what I've read you should always get above 90% mash efficancy (conversion efficiancy). I always do when I get my grains milled from the LHBS. If I get them milled from more beer I get more like 70% and my brewhouse efficiancy drops to like 50%... Can't wait to get my own mill.

    Stuck at 1.02

Would a pack of S-05 be any better then another 2L of Denny's? Specs put Denny's as a more attenuative yeast then S-05 on average and I would be pitching more active cells. Don't get me wrong, I love S-05 but it requires a trip to the LHBS.

    Rushed starter

It's never a good idea to rush things because you're short on time. If you can't push off brew day I don't see a big problem with just delaying the pitch. As long as your primary is sanatized and sealed it should be fine to wait a day or so to pitch your yeast.

    1.020 Curse!

I'd recommend taking at least the final reading with a hydrometer since a refractometer is still a calculation. I've found the calulated value is dead on in my setup but ymmv... As to the OP, You mentioned this is cloudy and you wondered if you should filter it. My advice is don't. If it's a...

    Anyone with oxygen tablet experience?

If you're looking for a easy and low cost means to aerate, I use the hole and two clamps on the transfer hose method. Works really good. I still shake the hell out of my bucket to for good measure. Link: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/entries/wort-aeration-how-to-build-a-free-pump.html

    Stuck at 1.02

Yeah it's a hard truth I don't want to accept but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. Hopefully the dry hopping and carbing will cover some of the sweetness.

    Stuck at 1.02

Hi, First time doing an extract brew, I've done several all grains already but decided to try an extract kit. I've done a lot of reading after the fact and it appears 1.02 is probably going to be my final number. I've read liquid malt extracts tend to finish a bit high and I didn't know about...

    93% efficiency?

That is considered conversion efficiancy. It should be as close to 100% as possible. 93% is perfectly normal. I read somewhere that it should always be above 90% but can't find it listed now, but it makes sense. It's how much available sugar you where able to convert from the grains in the mash...

    93% efficiency?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Usually first runnings are used to measure the conversion effiancy. Conversion should always be above 90% or your brewhouse efficancy will suffer greatly. Brewer's friend has a great write up of the different types of efficancy, I posted a quick link to...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Even with everything gone arye (hehe) this still seems to be coming around just fine. The samples I've taken have all been delicious. I know I'll enjoy the final product. It's totally on my re-brew list, can't wait to come back around to it. Thanks again for the recipe and your feedback. :mug:

    Drink HomeBrew Only...

With all the money I've spent on my homebrew recently, SWMBO won't let me buy much commercial beer. I still do enjoy a good craft brew every now and then but for the most part it's all homebrew. I just need to thicken my pipeline so I don't run dry between batches.

    You guys are awesome!

Made up my account and figured I'd come say hi. I've been viewing the forums since I started brewing near the beginning of this year and have learned so much. This site really is the best place for information and the community is very supportive. My friend is an avid brewer and got me...

Dry Hop in a Better Bottle Question

I usually cold crash for a day, but you could get away with less time. Overnight would probably be sufficient.

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Well thanks again for the feedback. I plan on brewing this again later since my brewday was a compleate disaster... I'll be sure to dial in the numbers you listed. My sob story involves horrible efficiancy (I think I was shorted grain), a broken thermometer, a stuck sparge (I think my filter...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Thanks for the reply! I built my water up for a balanced profile (brewer's friend calc) from R.O. and then I saw your reply so I added more gypsum. I'm still a bit green when it comes to building water, mine will be a little off from adding baking soda. Do my finals look ok? Ca 135 Mg 0 Na 40...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

Add me to the list of brewers brewing this up. First time brewing with rye, cant wait to see how it comes out. I was originally going to clone Sierra Nevadas ruthless rye, but stumbled on this recipie and saw all the rave reviews. Got my starter spinning away right now. Malts smelled great on...
