    2nd BIAB Brew - 86% efficiency

OK, that's the good news, but it put my OG at 1.07 instead of ~1.05. I used 1 pack of Safeale 05 dry yeast. Should I add another package. Worried about underpitching. Any suggestions? Thanks

tired of the hassle of brewing

My last batch tasted like meat. My low point, but thinking about buying beer at $10.00 a sixer made me rethink how bummed I was.

    Little Giant 3-MD-HC problem

If garden hose theads are the only ones that work, I just purchased a 1/2 MIP - 3/4 MH Garden hose thread adapter at Home Depot. That should take you from the 3/4 garden hose threads to a common 1/2 in theading that you can use any kind of fitting. ie. barbed, compression, ball valve, etc. It...

Kegged beer pours with a head but seems only slightly carbed

I have had several "bad" liquid connectors on those picnic taps. There was flashing from the molding process partially blocking the exit hole. Drove me crazy! I tried lower pressure, Higher pressure, slow pour, fast pour. Nothing worked, switched to a new liquid disconnect, problem solved. I...

Is the inside of this Keg ok?

If all else fails go to HD or Lowes, Get some muratic acid. Very dangerous $hit, but it will dissolve anything. (concentrated hydrochloric acid). Do not use this stuff inside, get a gas mask from HD or Lowes while you are there. Do not leave it in the Keg for more than a few minutes. it will...

    Fixing my immersion chiller

Is it leaking at the cold side or the hot side, or both? Take the hose clamp and tubing off, inspect them for cracks and pinch marks. You might want to slide the hose on further and use two clamps per side. I switched to soldered fittings, easy and cheap insurance. I will never have to worry...

Metallic taste in lots of beers?

rickahyatt, I'm a celiac as well, is that metallic taste of some benefit?

    Can't decide on chiller...

Prosper, I thought about doing them in parallel. So I did as much research as I could. As one can expect, not much out there. But, many others smarter than me suggested that liquids follow the path of least resistance. Possibly, not flowing through one of the coils at an optimum rate. Also...

    Can't decide on chiller...

Thanks, It still amazes me how fast it works. We did a club brew a few weeks ago and I brought this monster for people to use. It had everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off because they were used to having more time to get ready to transfer, and pitch. One important # is...

    Double immersion wort chiller

The water temp from pot#1 will be at almost boiling going into pot#2. So little to no thermal heat transfer will occur in pot #2. Why not stagger your boils by 10 - 15 minutes or so. Move your IC to the second pot when your first one is done chillin.

    Can't decide on chiller...

50' Dual Coil IC, hands down. I can chill 5 gals of wort down to 74 F. in 8 minutes. Here is a picture of the one I built

Primary Fermenting in a Corny Keg

"and the viability should be off the charts in comparison" It is amazing how much yeast you can get just from blow off. My next generation will be one with a lower fitting 1 1/2" to 2" up from the bottom, just to see how much yeast I could actually get. I pitched a 2nd batch of a Belgian...

Primary Fermenting in a Corny Keg

That is a very slick idea. One of the problems with my unit is it needs to be above the fermentation chamber (whatever that may be, corny, bucket, conical.) I place mine on a shelving unit that I have reconfigured for my fermentors. But it can be problematic if one is lagering in a small frig...

Primary Fermenting in a Corny Keg

I'll see if I can post a picture for you. I don't know if it would work without the air lock. When there is a lot of pressure built up I think the beer might go up both tubes instead of just one. I could be wrong. The other problem is that kegs are made for pressure, this doesn't have that kind...

Primary Fermenting in a Corny Keg

Hello all, I have been fermenting 5 gal batches in 5 gal cornies and 5 gal conicals. I use ( and am thinking about manufacturing and selling) a Burton Union Unit. It is great. It is basically a SS canister with a sealable lid. In the lid I drill a hole and add an air lock. Then I drill a hole...
