    OG reading

Yes mixed it really good. Put it in the fermenting bucket closed lid and swirled for about 3 min. Has a lot of froth on top now. Have not added yeast yet.

    OG reading

Northern Brew La Petite Orange. Should I just leave the OG at 1.060 and pitch the yeast?

    OG reading

Stupid question and sorry for bothering everyone. I used 4 gallons instead of the recommended 2.5 gallons per my extract kit instructions. So the question is would this cause my OG to be higher than if I did the 2.5 gallons? Kit says it should be 1.052 and I am getting 1.060. I already have...

    Yeast Smack Pack

No different than when I pulled it out of fridge. I think 3 times now I have checked to make sure the inner pack was broke. I am pretty sure it is.

    Yeast Smack Pack

Almost 8 hours and nothing yet.

    Yeast mixing

I think I am just going to use the white labs 530 by itself. The Wyeast smack pack still hasn't started to expand and it has been almost 8 hours.

    Yeast mixing

    My LHBS gave me WLP530.
  8. P

    Yeast Smack Pack

Yes mine says that as well. However what I meant was the it does not say if you should warm the packet before smacking it or if you can do it cold.

    Yeast mixing

Is it ok to pitch a Wyeast pack and a white labs vial in the same batch.
  10. P

    Yeast Smack Pack

    OG is 1.052.

    Yeast Smack Pack

Wasn't sure if I should run the LHBS before it closes today. This is the first time using a smack pack an everything I read or watched never said anything about what temp to start at. Thanks for all the advice. I will let it sit a while longer and see what happens.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Trying to brew a Le Petite Orange from Northern Brewer.
  13. P

    Yeast Smack Pack

I did shake it. So if I brew today and I put the wort in a closes fermenter overnight and then pitch tomorrow?
  14. P

    Yeast Smack Pack

I was trying to figure out if it needed to be at temp or not. Nothing on package to tell you that.

    Yeast Smack Pack

So I am trying to brew today. I took my Wyeast 1214 Belgian Abbey smack pack out if the fridge. Fridge was at 38 degrees. Smacked it at 6 am. It is now 10 am and no change in the package. Mfg date is 9 Jan 13. Should be good but do you think it might be bad?
  16. P

    Original gravity

So if you top off your wort to 5 gallons and the OG is still high should you continue to add water to get the OG down or leave the OG high?

    Final graavity readings

Never did a hydrometer adjustment. Didn't think I had to do anything with it. I do have some distiller water in the pantry that I use for my humidor. Not in same place as beer though. Is there a write up somewhere on how to do the hydrometer adjustment testing
  18. P

    Final graavity readings

Yes I aerated it. At least I think I did a good job aerating it.

    Final graavity readings

I am using a hydrometer I used Brewferm lager yeast at 57 degrees. That was as cold as I could keep it. I did not use a yeast starter just rehydrated it from the package.

    Final graavity readings

So I have brewed a few batches now and all 3 never really got to the final gravity they were supposed to. The all stopped a little short. My last bat h was a Munich Helles. Starting gravity was 1.052. Recipe called for 1.045-1.050. Waited 4 weeks in fermenter and it stopped at 1.024. My...
