Dual Stage Ranco with Fridge & Fermwrap

Excellent. I set mine up like this last night, and it has been holding it at exactly 60deg since about 10pm. Really excited for precise temp control! Doing the Big Brew Oktoberfest recipe this weekend, really excited! Many thanks!

How do I get my garden hose not to leak?!?!

Thanks guys, I will check to see if I am possibly missing gaskets, as these are both new hoses. I can't believe I have been brewing for years with leaking hoses....damnit, I should have asked sooner!! Cheers

Dual Stage Ranco with Fridge & Fermwrap

Machinestop: do you run both the heating and cooling at 60deg (for example), with a 1deg differential all the time? So if it hits 61 the cooling kicks on, and if it hits 59 the heating??

How do I get my garden hose not to leak?!?!

As the title suggests, I always have issues with my garden hose leaking at the connection site. It leaks coming out of the faucet, and makes the landing around it a muddy mess, and leaks into the adapter in my chiller. It's a B3 super chiller, looks top notch, but I have to wrap a towel around...

    Pacman starter\reuse question

There's an episode of Brewstrong (thebrewingnetwork.com), about reusing yeast. They talk about the yeast getting stressed in higher gravity beers, and also about how yeast strains tend to get better with each generation. One of their more interesting and informative, you can download it from iTunes.

Dual Stage Ranco with Fridge & Fermwrap

OK, so I've spent the last hour searching and reading old threads on Ranco setups. I purchased the prewired Dual Stage Ranco from Morebeer (http://morebeer.com/view_product/16664//Ranco_Digital_Two-Stage_Temperature_Controller_-_Wired, a Fermwrap heater, and a Craigslist standard top-freezer...

    Pacman starter\reuse question

I know I've heard several people recommend not washing yeast from really hoppy or high gravity beers. You may want to brew the porter, wash, then pitch half of what you washed into the IIPA, and jar the rest.

Quick Disconnect Coupling to whirlpool chiller arm

Haha, yeah the compression fitting really mystified me when I was installing the sight-glass on my HLT and BK. Not sure if I want to go that route here though, I like the idea of finally getting some hands on experience with soldering anyway.

Quick Disconnect Coupling to whirlpool chiller arm

Sweet. That is exactly what I had pictured in my head, but had no idea if such a thing existed. Thanks man, off to Lowes!

Quick Disconnect Coupling to whirlpool chiller arm

OK, so I purchased the Wort Chiller Recirculation Arm from Morebeer, which comes with a hose clamp setup to connect the tubing to. However, I would like to put a permanent coupling for my quick disconnects one there. How would I go about this? I have this male coupling from McMasterCarr, but...

3/8" Ball Valve to 1/2" Quick disconnect??

smakudwn, what exactly is a hex reducer? Was this something that you were able to find at a regular hardware store? I'd definitely be willing to just changing the ball valve completely, seems like it may be the best solution as I don't want to have different size quick disconnects.

3/8" Ball Valve to 1/2" Quick disconnect??

I have the Round Home Depot cooler converted to a mash tun (Flyguy's directions), with the 3/8" ball valve to a nipple. I recently purchased a pump, and now have all of the necessary 1/2" quick disconnects from McMaster Carr to run this between my Keggles. However, I am having an issue finding...

My life is OVER...YEAST STALL! AAAHHHHH

Cascadian Dark Ale (Pitch Black Clone) help

Widmer lists their hops used on their webpage: BITTERING: Alchemy AROMA: Alchemy, Cascades DRY HOP: Cascade T-45 Alchemy is supposedly a mixture of Warrior & Magnum, which is why I put those in there. The beer doesn't have an overwhelming cascade flavor to it, but one thing about this recipe, I...

Cascadian Dark Ale (Pitch Black Clone) help

After minimal research, and a quick jaunt to Widmer's website, I created a recipe for a Pitch Black Clone in BeerSmith. I was hoping I could get some critique and feedback. My buddy really loves this beer, and I am getting him into homebrewing slowly, so I thought this would be a great beer to...

    Warm fermenting yeast for Maibock

I just finished the Dead Guy clone from Can You Brew It. I bought Pacman online, and it worked as advertised. Best tasting beer I have ever made!!

missed my fg by 4 pts

On The Brewing Networks "Can You Brew It" show, they routinely miss both starting and finishing gravity points on beers they are trying to clone, and are always shocked to find that a few points makes very little difference. I also have noticed this with my Dead Guy clone, starting almost...

    Grapefruit pale ale ?

From the hops. Centennial, Cascade, Columbus, Simcoe all have varying degrees of Grapefruit/Citrusy flavor to them, and are the usual suspects with West Coast Pales and IPA's.
