My first attempt at an IPA recipe - feedback welcomed!

Well, I finally brewed this up last night. My efficiency didn't suck, like I thought it would. OG at about 65F was 1.074, right on the nuts. Pitched 2 packets of S-05. I had considered using 1 pack if I was at 1.060 or lower, but at the gravity I had, I decided 2 would be better. Mashed a...

SWMBO has had it with my kitchen brewing.

I was kicked out of the kitchen after my first brew session. My wife came home after I just started chilling the wort. "UGH! What is that awful smell?" followed by my 2 daughters saying the same thing. My then 7-year old son came in the house, smelled it, and said, "That's smells awesome, what...

RIS in a 6 Gallon Carboy

I bet wrapping some tin foil around the tube one the blowoff vessel would be a good way to harvest some yeast,,,

Best practice when pitching harvested yeast

I'm sorry if this has been covered umpteen times, but do people usually make a starter if they're pitching the yeast slurry they harvested from a previous fermenter? I'm talking about 3-4 weeks after its been harvested and sitting in the fridge... I've got a quart jar of irish ale wlp-004 filled...

    AG and Blow Offs

I use to have about a 50% blowoff rate when I was doing extracts. Since switching to AG, I haven't had one. I always use a blowoff tube just in case too. I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong to not get them. If I decide to just use an airlock on my next batch, it'll probably blow the lid right...

What do you do during the mash?

No harm in trying, I guess... Lack of quality time is what drives me to brew :-/

    Angry responses

How do I brew a hoppy beer? I seen recipes for ales and lagers, but I want to make beer! (is that trolling too much?)

My first attempt at an IPA recipe - feedback welcomed!

Considering my efficiency will probably suck, it'll probably be more like 1.064 than 1.074 ;-)

My first attempt at an IPA recipe - feedback welcomed!

If you hurry, you can order a pound of Galaxy hops from Yakima Valley Hops for $20 + $5 shipping. :-) They've only got around 20 lbs. left right now. They've got some awesome prices on some commonly used hops. I also ordered their current special: 1lb of Columbus and 1/2 lb of Cascades for $10...

My first attempt at an IPA recipe - feedback welcomed!

edited for correct percentages. Thanks, bobbrews! I was thinking I'd probably have to pitch 2 packs of US-05. Added that to the recipe too. :)

My first attempt at an IPA recipe - feedback welcomed!

So, I just ordered a bunch of hops last night (after having one too many), so this morning I decided to take a stab at formulating my own recipe around the hops I bought. After I get them all, I'll brew it up. Here's what I've got (Used Brewer's Friend - was pretty simple): Galaxy Gale IPA...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Brewing this up tonight... Picked up an extra oz of cascade to dry hop. Any thoughts on adding chinook for bittering? Or even aroma? Maybe at 5 mins. Or even a hop stand?

To pay or not to pay. That is my question

I see nothing wrong with taking money from a friend to brew up something he wants brewed. At least paying for the ingredients. I love to brew, my buddy knows this. He wanted a clone for a stout he couldn't find anywhere. He said if I found a recipe, he'd pay for the ingredients. I made him go...

Mackesson XXX Stout... 3rd AG batch

It's finishing the boil on this one. A buddy paid for the ingredients, so I said I'd brew it for him. Of course, I keep half of it ;-). Things are going smoothly, a little more boil off than I anticipated, but it smells heavenly so far. Hit my numbers all around so far as well. I love all grain!

    Looking for recommendations, WI/Midwest brews?

While I'm all for hurting BMC, they do serve a purpose: keeping rednecks and uneducated people away from the good stuff.
