    Fermentation Chamber Decisions

True, and good points. I probably wouldn't go the Keezer route mainly because I have a nice little basement bar with a DIY Keggerator and two taps. I think you're right though about the freezer. I guess I was kind of hoping someone would talk me into building the under-workbench option though...

    Fermentation Chamber Decisions

As of last night I finally decided to order an STC-1000 and "build" a fermentation chamber. I've been doing a certain amount of searching and reading and looking at others builds but I'm stuck deciding what to do. The facts of my situation are: 1. SWMBO is NOT a fan of my spending money/time...

    Yeast Washing and Gelatin

True, but I so love being able to see the fermenting and yeast cake and whatnot. Maybe weird, but I like it.

    Yeast Washing and Gelatin

Yeah, i thought about racking to a secondary, but both my carboys are in use right now, meaning at the least I would have to buy a third. Not generally a problem, but my SWMBO doesn't get my hobby and any money spent is met with rolling eyes that don't understand why I can't just buy a case of...

    Yeast Washing and Gelatin

I'm rather new to homebrewing with maybe 5 batches of passable all-grain brews under my belt. I've been using dry yeast in every batch, but I'm curious and thinking of washing yeast off my two current batches. I've never tried it before but doesn't look too difficult. The thing is, I use...

    2 Row "Only" Beer

Well I'm sold, probably will toast up some 2 row and try it out. The only thing I can think of is the 2 row I have is already milled and don't know how that will affect the toasting. Thanks again for the idea.

    2 Row "Only" Beer

That sounds like a good idea....probably will try that. If you can, tell me more about roasting. Did you just spread 5 lbs out on a cookie sheet or two and put it in the oven? How burnt did it get? How does it affect taste/colour?

    2 Row "Only" Beer

Quick question from those that have experimented. I was going to brew a variation of Ed's Haus Pale Ale, but forgot to order the Vienna Malt. Where I order from, shipping is a bit pricey, and ordering 2 lbs would cost 3 times in shipping what the cost of the grain would be. Not a big deal...

    Flavouring hops only

Thanks for the answers...personally I like the taste of hops, so the question was more related to experimenting...playing around with different aspects to learn what results they produce. Might still try a batch, just for "science" sake.

    Flavouring hops only

Thanks for the feedback. The recipe in question is a popular one on the forum (and quite good as is): https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/bee-cave-brewery-haus-pale-ale-31793/. My question isn't really recipe specific. It's more to gauge what it would taste like if someone omitted the bittering...

    Flavouring hops only

Quick and probably silly question. I'm new to brewing and All grain in specific. I've brewed 4 batches so far (curious how the latest batch will turn out, messed up the strike temp calculation and the result was a mash WAY too hot for about 10 minutes or so). So far I'm mostly happy with my...

How to get rid of gunk at bottom of keg

Other than cost of another keg, filtering looks to be pretty cheap to me. I'm with you though every time I tap a new keg, thinking I really want to get rid of the sediment, but then it clears and I forget about it over the next 18 litres or so. Video of an easy setup:

    DIY Tap Handle?

Without a doubt there's some really creative and extremely well done DIY tap handles in this thread. Unfortunately, I'm not as talented as some here, but inspiration did hit for a new tap handle to welcome a new Rye Ale I just brewed. Really easy to build, just an old ski pole and a nut...

Alternative Grain Beer Rye Pale Ale

Question about the Hops schedule...I put the recipe into Brewtarget and it listed the recipe as "Way Hoppy" with IBU over 100, all based on the Magnum Hops in a 5 Gal batch. That's a little higher than the recipe-listed IBU of 35. So.....what am I inputing wrong. I really want to avoid having...

    Beer Clarity and Kegging

Okay, pulled a pint today and let it sit to get warm (see if it's cold chill). Well, it stayed cloudy, so I have to figure the dip tube is picking up sediment off the bottom. The cloudy beer taste delicious though (although my wife and father-in-law won't like it...."too hoppy" since they're...

    Beer Clarity and Kegging

Not going to lie, i REALLY like this idea for keg cleaning....can't believe it didn't occur to me. Can you describe the adapter and maybe post some pictures?? Again, great idea. As for the filter....I get the not moving it bit, but this filter thing has grabbed my imagination and is stuck...

    Simple labels are better.

Love the Cider Label. Agreed with the "less is more" philosophy too.

    Beer Clarity and Kegging

Thanks for all the replies. I figure I'll wait a while yet, pull a couple pints and hope it clears up (not that I won't drink the beer anyway, cloudy doesn't bother me any). What about setting up something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJDBEsi_FYY I seems to me that it would be...

    Beer Clarity and Kegging

Thanks for the response. The strength of my boil is another issue, I'm doing 5 Gal batches (6.5 Gal Wort) but have only a 7.5 Gal boil kettle, which means I have to hold the boil down a bit to keep from having too many boil over's. In a day or two I'll pull a few pints and see if it clears...

    Beer Clarity and Kegging

So I've brewed and Kegged my first AG batch. In the fermenting, I racked to a Primary, then to a secondary. I tried hard to leave as much Trub as possible in each stage of racking. Prior to racking to the Keg, I used Gelatin and let it sit for 4 days, and sure enough the beer was crystal...
