When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

I feel exactly the same about those paying.$50 for a bottle of wine, and yet many do. That's not how you run your budgets if you hope to survive, all your costs of production including salaries and any business costs are factored in, not just assumed as part of your profit. If you missed it...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Some in this thread are arguing just that. No debate the $9+ segment isn't going to be the major segment, anymore than $30+ bottles of wines or $50+ bottles of whiskey will be, most buyers go in large part on price. I can't recall the last time I purchased a $30+ bottle of wine (accept maybe in...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Higher ABV comes from more grains, double the amount sometimes. --- This might interest some, and probably the most comprehensive breakdown of costs I've seen from a brewery (though I want to do similar once we're operational). This is one of the best known independent breweries in Australia...

Lactic acid into fermented beer to add sourness?

Hey chaps, I have a sour in the fermenter where fermentation is done, but it really doesn't taste sour at all even though pH is around 3.2. So I want to add just a little more using Lactic Acid, which I've heard can be done, but I can't find much info about it online, or about how much to add...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

I do love how so many seem to know so much about everyone else's business and what must be wrong with it! :D "Except from the high abv beers" - You do know that the same reason these cost more to make (more ingredients, grain in this case) is the same reason beers with lots of adjuncts, and...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

No debate. My comment was more that a $9+ can of beer retail price is ONLY due to marketing, when those that do have insights into production & distribution costs know this is not the case. The marketing aspect comes into play for whether a brewery can charge $7-9 for that can, or $15. The...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

As I wrote, why not go chat with a few actually running breweries and get some insights about the FACTS involved in production costs and challenges, rather than repeating your OPINION that this beer style isn't worth the money to you? All I can convey is what I have learned from a number of them...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

And yet many breweries are doing very well doing that, due to the market demanding those kinds of beers. What should a business do, ignore what the market wants and only brew the cheapest beer possible? To me that would make for a ****** business plan. I get it, you and many in this thread...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

This prior post from @SanPancho worth reposting, for those who still believe a $9 can cost is only marketing. (and I think his retailer markup was on the conservative side) And if you're genuinely curious, in my experience most small breweries are more than happy to chat about their costs of...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

It's really not much different from food, some people only want (or can only afford) to buy a McDonalds or equivalent priced meal, while others are happy to pay a little more to experience differing flavours, styles of food, types of food, chef creativity ...etc. And many others in between. Not...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

I'd pay more if I could get my hands on one!! Had the one someone brought for me once, and it lived up to the hype!

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Another little insight that might interest you around costs... A brewery I know very well from Argentina (I lived there for over 5 years) is expanding into Spain and likely Australia (they have history with the latter), in large part as the owners worked out that the costs of production across...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Hey someone who knows what they're talking about! ;) And spot on! Having done some very high level initial costings on different styles for a brewery startup I'm part of, adjuncts whether they be hops or other more "creative" ones can add substantially to the cost of production depending what...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Apparently not all beers or styles. All the best.

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Same situation in Australia, drinkers are loving the experimental beers, even if they don't always work out, the market loves them!

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Every single one of your comments has shown you believe beer should only cost a certain amount and no more. Have a misread all that? And seems your only response to anyone with a differing view than your own is to start throwing out the personal insults, hence time to exit this now pointless...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Seems you really do know very little... start in Belgium with some of the Trappist breweries and their aged stuff, and work out from there. Actually it's usually the barrel aged beers I prefer to spend money on when splurging, both dark beers and sours. Some of them are made to sip like a good...

Even those who like the occassional splurge, gotta have those great core range cheapies to fall back on! :tank:

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

And yet some of the most successful breweries around - and over an extended period, some for over 100 years - are selling loads of beers for far more than $9/can. Go figure. You enjoy your narrow minded outlook on beers, I'll enjoy the amazingly diverse one that actually exists, and that I keep...

When did craft beer prices “jump the shark”

Why do you think beer should be exempt from the huge varieties in quality, styles and variations every other alcohol in existence has? It's actually always been there, it just wasn't called "craft beer" back then, and not drunk by the masses.
