    Fast Souring - Modern Methods

Then as an administrator, you should be aware that a previous time I posted something in your facebook group asking a question with regards to the quick sour method, I received some quite rude responses from a few of your group members (longer term group members from the tone of their responses)...

Steeping grains in wort vs. water: extraction efficiency vs. tannins

Good to know if I ever try a partial mash/extract brew :) (and hope peeps don't mind my questions, cramming my head full of as much brewing learning/info as possible! ;) )

Steeping grains in wort vs. water: extraction efficiency vs. tannins

Ahhh, this is an extract brewing thing, is that correct? And hence why I was ignorant of it... apologies. https://homebrewanswers.com/steeping-vs-mashing-grain/

Steeping grains in wort vs. water: extraction efficiency vs. tannins

Excuse my ignorance, but isn't wort what results from steeping grains in water?? Obviously from the above I'm missing something here, and google hasn't been able to clarify my misunderstanding, apologies...

Lacto dropped the PH far too low

Yep, just used the co-pitching method and worked a treat!!! Re reducing souring, if you haven't pitched yeast yet any chance you can make new wort and blend, would that work at all?

Curry, jalapeno & ginger sour... how...??

My local favourite brewer (Strange Brewing in Argentina, if curious, the best brewer here for mine) last year brewed an amazing curry, jalapeno & ginger sour, none of the flavours dominating, with all three just working somehow to create this sour I would never have imagined working. Would...

    My first sour brew progress...

Here's a recipe to get some input in, an amazing sour that my local fav brewery did a while back... curry, jalapeno & ginger. None of the flavours dominated, and it somehow just "worked" even though I would never have come up with that recipe myself... so at what stage of the process would they...

    My first sour brew progress...

Dry hopped a small amount just to kill all bacteria once it was soured to my satisfaction, as you had advised elsewhere I believe. And now I have this basic/base sour recipe down I can obviously play with the flavours, souring some other styles perhaps ...etc. So many ideas...!! ;)

    My first sour brew progress...

My first sour, and I friggin' NAILED it!!! I secondary fermented majority of this batch in two different fermenters, one with passion fruit, one with mixed red fruits... the passionfruit one I tasted for the first time today, and it ROCKS!!! I didn't expect it to be anywhere near this good, my...

Rookie error - Bottle cap not screwed on properly hence low carbonation

Yeah I'm having no issues with the PET bottles I have, apart from when I make a mistake (and much better mistake than a over-carbinated beer bomb in a glass bottle! ;) ). Brewed a NEIPA today, all went well, so fingers crossed it's a good'un!

Rookie error - Bottle cap not screwed on properly hence low carbonation

This is an easily addressed problem, hence I feel no need to throw the bathtub out as well... ;) And as you say, a newbie problem of some kind is just that, a mistake you make and learn from quickly. And as it turns out in this instances, without wasting any beer (well, a litre or two...

Rookie error - Bottle cap not screwed on properly hence low carbonation

I've been using corn sugar. And from now on I rip off the lock ring on all the caps, to avoid any issues too.

Rookie error - Bottle cap not screwed on properly hence low carbonation

I worked out the volume of beer/bottles that needed to be re-primed (all with this cap issue, opened a couple more and same issue), made up the relevant priming solution volume, added the relevant amount to each bottle, resealed with caps (with the plastic rings removed!). Obviously sanatised...

Stupid beginner questions... but I have to ask

I've found from my searches on many items that there are experiments like on the Brulosophy site that in effect provide the reasons why, while at the same time he also does experiments that disprove other things. Almost every time I've searched for a "why" about something brew related that site...

Stupid beginner questions... but I have to ask

Speaking of human spit, check out "chicha", a traditional beer-like alcohol made in parts of South & Central America where some regions make it by humans chewing the main ingredient (corn), spitting it into a vessel and letting it ferment for a few weeks. Not all chicha is made this way, so if...

    Is this IPA too dark?

So just to update (and draw a line through it for this brew), the half a batch I secondary fermented on top of 1kg of tinned pineapple pieces didn't really pick up any pineapple flavour I can discern. Ddefinitely a little lighter in colour, with a VERY slight additional fruitiness to the...

Rookie error - Bottle cap not screwed on properly hence low carbonation

Yay, re-priming them worked!! Which saved me around 7 litres of beer!! Appreciate the advice guys, helpful as always!!! :ban:

Stupid beginner questions... but I have to ask

Have you googled your questions? I know from my googling on a few of those (or closely related) there's loads of info online about most if not all. Eg, your question about grain coarseness, second result in google was this one...

Suggestions for a small batch IPA

This is the blog post that finally got me brewing after wanting to do so for years: https://homebrewanswers.com/minimum-equipment-all-grain-brew/ It showed me how I could brew with minimal equipment, and using some of what I already had in the kitchen. And going pretty well, onto my 5th brew...

    "Yeasty" flavour... just patience and....?

Nope, I mis-communicated that part, he didn't drink from the bottle. All good folks, time & patience the most likely issue if any, easily solved. Cheers.
