    How to spend ~$500

I'd love to get into kegging, but again am worried about space for a fridge. BTW, my first kettle fermentation is going well. No apparent infection, at least, and attenuated well. Thanks for the pointers.

    How to spend ~$500

I thought about that, but I can't find any dorm fridges that will take a bucket or carboy without modification. I have no tools or space to work on such a project - urban living! Any suggestions on a specific model?

    How to spend ~$500

I have about $500 to request in gift items for my brew setup. I do 5-6g BIAB in a concord 40qt with a ball valve, and a Bayou Classic SP10 burner. I have a Cool Brewing bag for temp control, and I bottle my brew. Use plastic buckets for fermenters, although I've used my kettle on occasion as...

    Mobile Apps

Take a look at Wort - currently Android only. It's a great app and the one that I use. Great developer is constantly updating and improving. He's very responsive to user feedback. Pretty nice looking app, too. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.dynamicdesigns.wort

    Thoughts on an ESB recipe?

So, I ended up going with C60 and an ounce of Carafa2 to give me some color. I hit my preboil gravity, but somehow ended up way off on my OG - 1.044 instead of 1.058. I'd leave it, but I ended up with IBUs at 40, and I'm afraid that will be out of balance. So I'm thinking I'll boil up two lbs...

    Thoughts on an ESB recipe?

Interesting. I've never brewed with MO before. Do you think a generic british pale malt might do better with the S04?

    Thoughts on an ESB recipe?

I've been playing around with an ESB recipe that I'll be brewing again this weekend. Here's the recipe: 5.5gal batch 10lb MO 1lb C80 0.75 oz Target @ 60 1oz EKG @15 OG 1.056 IBU 40 BIAB, single infusion mash @ 152F Ferment w/ S-04 @64-66F Any thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? Thanks

    Fermenting in Kettle

What size kettle do you use for what size batch? Isn't too much head space an issue? I'm still bottling, so I'm going to try an experiment. I'll rack half into a bottling bucket and bottle the other half straight from the kettle using the ball valve. That way, if any beasties are hiding in the...

    Fermenting in Kettle

I know I've seen WilserBrewer refer to this a few times, but is anybody else using this technique? I'm going for super minimalist brewing setup. I currently do BIAB and no chill. But instead of transferring to a no chill cube and then to a FV, how about just no chilling in the kettle? I...

    Kettle insulation for mash

By all means, use the idea and improve on it. That's what these boards are for. I thought of a layer of reflectix on both sides of the foam if you want a starting place for possible modifications

    Kettle insulation for mash

Fired to strike temp, killed the burner, then applied the jacket during dough in. No heat applied during mash to maintain temp for a little over an hour.

    Kettle insulation for mash

I want to report to the board on a great means of insulating for mash that I tried out today for the first time. I created an insulating jacket for my kettle out of a 1.5" thick closed cell foam camp mat, mated to the ever popular Reflectix. I cut the camp mat to the size of my kettle, with...

    wilserbrewer BIAB bags

Just received my order! Very high quality stitching, very fine mesh - much better than the bag from my lhbs I'd been using. Looking forward to using it, and shipping was prompt! Thanks

    Saison Cottage House Saison

Well, my attempt at brewing a lower-alcohol version of this beer was undone by the yeast. I came in a little lower on my OG, by design, at 1.057. However, after three weeks at 70-72F, I've settled in at 0.998! This leaves me with a calculated ABV of 7.7%:drunk: I liked the way the sample...

    Saison Cottage House Saison

So here's my plan for "detuning" this recipe down to about 1.050-1.053 OG, which should net me an ABV in the 5.7-6.3% range. I manage around 80% efficiency with my BIAB system. Grain/Sugars: 7.0 lbs. Pilsner Malt(2-row) 1.0 lbs. White Wheat 0.50 lbs. CaraMunich Malt 0.50 lbs. Flaked...

Trying to make Belgium Golden Strong Ale? All help is appreciated

Brad from BeerSmith did a podcast recently on this style. Lots of general technique pointers for brewing the style. Really made me want a Duvel when I was finished listening to it, but my local place doesn't sell it! Link here Good luck!
